Crafted by Erick Bardales, Splice Originals: Velvet Room draws inspiration from the Anderson .Paak style of production, infused with Erick's unique take on melodies. Collaborating with drummer Wayne “Doc” Matthews from CoolNasty, who lent his rhythms from a Ludwig Questlove Pocket Kit.
For the enthusiasts of gear, Erick elaborated on their recording setup. Drums were captured at EQT Studios in downtown LA, employing a stereo pair of Neumanns KM184 for overheads routed through the Apollo x8 and utilizing the UAD 1084 unison preamps. A Neumann u87 handled the snare drum, funneled through a Rupert Neve Shelford channel, while an Audix D6 fed into a BAE 1084 preamp managed the kick drum.
To infuse the drums with a vintage drum break feel, Erick employed XLN RC20 and Audiothing Reels, alongside applying UAD VOG by Little Labs to the kick drum for added depth and body. For the melodic loops, he harnessed The Prince by Frank Dukes, ANA2, Mellotron M4000D Mini, and Prophet REV2. On the mix bus, Ozone 8, Sonnox Inflator, The God Particle by Jaycen Joshua, and Fabfilter Pro L2 were employed for mastering.
