- Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of North America president, has announced the Wii U, the Wii's successor!

- The Wii U's controller looks like a pad / tablet. It features a 6.2 inch touchscreen which will duplicate the game action from the television screen on to the controller's screen (so if you're playing Pokemon Battle Revolution, what you see on the TV is what you will see on the controller's screen). The controller can also serve as a second "window" by providing additional gameplay information for new Wii U games.

- If someone wants to watch TV while you are playing the Wii U, you can move the game from the TV to the controller pad and continue playing it there. You cannot move far from the main console and use the controller pad as a portable console, however, as the main Wii U console uses a wireless signal to reliably transmit all the video, audio, and game information to the controller.

- To control your games, you can move your whole body with the controller pad (as it features motion sensors), use the touchscreen to do things like aiming a gun, or use the physical buttons and joysticks on the controller itself - there's a way to play for everyone.

- Both the console and the controller can be used to browse the web. If both are on simultaneously, you can lift the controller to the television screen and use its screen as a magnifying glass.

- The Wii U will feature high definition graphics, not that there was any doubt. The controller will not, however.

- The Wii U is backwards compatible with all Wii and Gamecube games and they can of course be played on the controller itself.

- The Wii U can still use Wiimotes and is compatible with all old Wii devices.

- The Wii U will be released sometime between April and December of 2012.

- Super Smash Bros. is going to be made for both the Wii U and the 3DS! Last edited by naen on 29-6-2013 01:01 AM

interview with satoru iwata (nintendo president)

On July 5, 2011, when asked about whether or not the Wii U was going to support 3D, Iwata told Mercury News, "If you are going to connect Wii U with a home TV capable of displaying 3-D images, technologically, yes, it is going to be possible, but that's not the area we are focusing on"

On January 26, 2012, Iwata told investors that the Wii U will be launched by the 2012 holiday shopping season in all major regions. Furthermore, Iwata stated that the console will feature a unified online system known as Nintendo Network, which will feature user account support as opposed to the use of friend codes. Nintendo Network will also provide the framework for online multiplayer interactions, add-on content sales, as well as digital distribution of applications and video games. Moreover, Iwata mentioned that the Wii U controller will support NFC, which will allow the system to wirelessly interact with figurines and cards created by developers. It will also allow for microtransactions to take place wirelessly using credit cards that have NFC support.

update from pokebeach.com ..

Nintendo just finished holding their Nintendo Direct presentation for the Wii U: it will be released in Japan on December 8th! Two bundles will be available: a white 8 GB model that costs 26,250 yen ($337) and a black 32 GB premium model for 31,500 yen ($405). Both packages will come with a gamepad controller and the system itself, but the premium package will also include an HDMI cable, a charging stand for the gamepad, a regular play stand for the gamepad, a Wii U system stand, and exclusive membership to the Nintendo Premium Network where you will get 10% off digital purchases.

A sensor bar will not be included in either package since you can use the one from your old Wii's, but it can be purchased separately. In terms of accessories, additional gamepads can be purchased for 13,440 yen ($173) and their charging stands for 1,870 yen ($24). The Wii U Pro Controller will cost 5,040 yen ($65) while the Wiimote will continue to have the same 3,800 yen price ($50). The Wiimotes will also now be available in red and blue coloring.

The Wii U will have 2 GB of RAM: 1 GB will be for games and the other 1 GB will be dedicated to system memory. According to Nintendo, the Wii U is 20x faster than the original Wii. As we already knew before, the Wii U will support 1080p HD, so the graphics will be vastly improved as well. Additionally, each Wii U disc can hold 25 GB of data compared to the original Wii's 4.7 GB / 8.54 GB discs.
