Murder in Small Town X is a participation mystery game set in Sunrise, USA and blurs the lines between reality and television. After a local family is “murdered,” ten players enter the game of trying to catch the killer.

Posing as investigators,the players must work together; piecing together clues, interviewing witnesses and for some, coming face-to-face with the Killer. The result is a gripping, terrifying and shocking television series that encourages viewers to formulate their own theories.

Rules
Every three days, the Killer will leave one black and one red envelope for the investigators. In the red envelope, there will be a question pertaining to the investigation. If the investigators answer the question correctly, the Killer will clear one of the suspects from the suspect board, thus narrowing down who the Killer is.

In the black envelope there will be maps to two locations. At one location, the Killer will leave an important clue. At the other location, the Killer will be waiting and the investigator will be eliminated.

The first person selected to play the Killer’s game is chosen by the group. One at a time, the investigators will go into a sound proof booth and make their selection, explaining who they are voting for and why. They will then seal the photo of that person in an envelope and place it in a locked box for counting by Gary. The person receiving the most votes will go to one of the two locations.

The second person selected to play the Killer’s game is chosen by the lifeguard. The lifeguard must make their choice out loud in front of the group. That person will go to the other location.

Before leaving, both investigators chosen will record their “Last, Will & Testament.” Here, they will make their choice of whom the next lifeguard will be if they do not return. Only the “Last, Will & Testament” of the investigator eliminated will be played for the group.

Lifeguard
The group must choose a “lifeguard”. The lifeguard position is a desirable one as it keeps the person safe at headquarters for three days. Further, the lifeguard is immune from playing the Killer’s game, which takes place every third day. The lifeguard’s job is to monitor and stay in touch with the teams out in the field and must assign the members of these teams each day. Finally, the lifeguard has the responsibility of choosing one of the two people to go out and play the Killer’s game.

As that person has a 50% chance of not returning, there could be dire consequences to that decision. The first lifeguard is chosen by random drawing. The subsequent lifeguards are chosen in the “Last Will & Testament” of the investigator eliminated the previous night.
