For those of you who love watching pageants, we scored an interview with the lovely Sabrina Beneett – the reigning Miss Universe Malaysia 2014! This gorgeous 23-year-old is the youngest in a family of six, her parents are Indian Catholics, originating from Perak. Having pursued Psychology & Communications at university, Sabrina is well known for her opinionated and ambitious nature. She is extremely passionate about raising awareness about life after rape, and strives to become an advocate for the rights of women and children concerning the issues of sexual violence. Determined, caring and drop dead gorgeous! No wonder she’s wearing the crown for MUM 2014!

My family – they always keep me sane when things get crazy.

What’s your beauty regime?
My skin is really dry, so I spend my fortune on moisturisers, lotions, night care creams, and practice piling up on sunblock every time I leave home.
Do you have a favourite beauty product?
I swear by Burt's Bees lip balms – they keep my lips lush and pampered all day long!
What inspired you to enter the Miss Universe Malaysia competition?
Joining the pageant was something I had on my bucket list ever since I was 13; watching the achievements of past winners inspired me to join the competition and make it happen for myself too.
Who’s your ultimate icon?
Audrey Hepburn is one of the timeless classic icons I immensely love; from her fashion statements to her outlook in life, she always brimmed with class, poise and elegance.
Name your favourite item in your closet:
This super comfy black throwover cardi, because I wear it over absolutely everything! It keeps me warm and fuzzy both indoors and out, and modestly covered whenever necessary.
Do you have a favourite quote or saying that you live by?
“Be yourself. Everyone else is taken” – Oscar Wilde.
Do you apply your own make up before Miss Universe segments? If so, how long does it take you?
I’ve never been a girly girl so the whole make-up thing was quite new for me; pre-pageant I used to get ready in 10 mins, but now with full make-up on it takes me up to 1 ½ hrs!
What’s something you’ve wanted to try but haven’t had the chance to?
Bungee Jump. I have an intense fear of heights – my knees turn into jelly at a mere three-storey height, so it has stopped me from doing so many fun things like roller coaster rides, parasailing and so many others! ):
What was your talent for Miss Universe, and what made you select this talent?
There was no talent segment this Miss Universe Malaysia Gala, but if I did have the opportunity to showcase mine, I would sing. Singing is something that is sincere and comes from the heart for me, and I would to share that sincerity with the judges and audience.
Name something you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing:
Fish-net stockings!
Who is your favourite fashion designer, and why?
Elie Saab – the style is always flattering, relevant and feminine. How can a girl not love all those mind blowing glamorous gowns?!
What is your goal for 2014 with regards to helping women and children that have been victimised by abuse?
It is a very delicate issue plaguing many women and children – the goal is to help them regain confidence, be empowered and support other women facing the same situations to cope and live a meaningful life.
If you had to give some advice to a group of people, what would it be?
Always have an end goal in mind, if you’re dead sure about where you need to be at the end of it all, it is quite hard to get lost in the midst of the journey.
