well, i don't deny about how hard to develop vista. i also don't dis the creator of the product. all i said was, if they wanted to lower the price and make it affordable to users, they can (and they will still be able to report good profit margin, albeit not as much as if they priced it right now, but way better than their competitors). if you read my post carefully, that's what i meant.
did microsoft ever reported a big loss for selling windows oses so far? and why do you think the price will come down soon? the only reason they mark the price quite high for now is because they can and they want quick return and to meet shareholders goals. most coproration won't switch to vista for at least a year. microsoft would be foolish to wait that long because of commitment to the investors. again, all i'm saying is, they can make the product affordable to end user, 95% of them, if they wanted too.
as for apple, they don't have large audience as microsoft. therefore, they have to mark the price high enough so that they can get good return for their os. the same goes for adobe.
as for linux, that's in different category. same goes for writers, artist, etc. because they are not big corporation like microsoft.
