TOKIO member Tomoya Nagase starred in the NTV summer drama, "My Boss My Hero" shown from July at Saturdays 9pm. The drama is based on the same-titled Korean movie in 2001 where Nagase makes his return to a school drama after 10 years. He plays the heir of a yakuza organization who gets sent back to high school by his father (the chief) to earn a diploma before he can take over the reins. As such, he has to cope with staying in a class for 1 year where everyone is at least 10 years younger than him.
NEWS member Yuya Tegoshi and KAT-TUN's Koki Tanaka acted in the drama with their Johnny's Jimusho senior Tomoya Nagase. Tegoshi will play Nagase's younger classmate in the senior high school he attends while Tanaka is going to be Nagase's subordinate in the gang his father leads.
Yui Aragaki acted as the heroine in "My Boss My Hero" where she plays the top student in the class and the first love of Nagase's character, the 27-year-old student-cum-son of a yakuza chief.

Ryoko Yonekura got to play a good woman for a change in the FujiTV summer drama, "Fuushin no Toki ~Woman Wars~" which was shown on Thursdays, 10pm. The story is based on a novel by the late Sawako Ariyoshi where Yonekura plays a housewife and Yuki Matsu#a plays the lover of her husband. There was a movie made in 1968 and a drama made in 1984.
Yonekura's role, Michiko is a rich man's daughter from a calligraphy family and her husband played by Ken Ishiguro is working in an ad agency. The lover, Machiko (Matsu#a) is the mamasan of a club in Ginza. When both women come to know each other, they collaborate to turn the tables on the man they love who is still undecided on who to choose.
Junichi Ishida plays the husband's friend who is an expert at having extramarital affairs, Kaoru Sugita plays an observer of what's happening while Koutaro Koizumi plays a young calligraphy expert.

Ryoko Shinohara starred in the TBS summer drama, "Hanayome wa Yakutoshi!" (The bride is a fake!) shown from 6 July on Thursdays 10pm. She plays a TV announcer who's 32 years old and values her career more than marriage. However, due to the fact that her position is taken over by a younger announcer, she's forced to take up the post in a variety show where the content is a feature on wives in an agricultural family. When she meets her ex-boyfriend played by Hiroyuki Yabe at a go-kon, she asks him for help and pretends to be his fiancee to learn how to be a bride at his hometown in the suburbs for the sake of her programme. This leads to endless clashes with her ex's mother played by Shima Iwa#a who is also not on talking terms with her son.
NEWS member Keiichiro Koyama plays the second son of Shima Iwa#a in the drama who helps out at the family peach farm despite being allergic to peaches. As such, his role is dying to get out of the suburbs and head to Tokyo for a life in the city.

Nana Eikura, Rosa Kato and Taichi Kokubun of TOKIO starred in the FujiTV summer drama, "Dandori~Dance*Drill~" starting from 11 July on Tuesdays 9pm. This was Eikura's first leading role in a drama and she played a senior high school student, Satsuki Aikawa who is part of a cheerleading team consisting of 18 girls. Rosa Kato played her teammate cum buddy Futaba Sueyoshi while Taichi Kokubun played their teacher. As the girls have never tried cheerleading dances before, they had to go through a 5-day training camp at the beginning of April. For Kokubun, this was his first drama in 2 years and his debut attempt at playing a teacher.
NEWS member Takahisa Masuda acted in "Dandori~Dance*Drill" as a 4th-generation Japanese-Brazilian by the name Suzuki Carlos Saburota who is the classmate of lead character Satsuki Aikawa (Nana Eikura) and he has been rejected 6 times so far when confessing his feelings to her. The story of this drama is based on a Kanagawa Prefecture senior high school cheerleading team which won the All-US cheerleading contest.

Aya Ueto played a poor university student in the TV Asahi summer drama, "Shimokita Sundays" shown from July at 9pm, Thursdays. The story is based on a novel by Ira Ishida and the producer will be Yukihiko Tsutsumi. Ueto plays Yui Satonaka, a student who joins a theatre group so as to achieve her dream of acting in stage plays while trying to make sure that she has enough money to survive.
Ueto's character in "Shimokita Sundays", Yui Satonaka lives in a 40-year-old apartment where the rent is 28,000 yen per month and doesn't come with a bathroom. The toilet is shared among all tenants and her main source of food is bread skins. As she is not rich, Yui wears old jerseys all the time and doesn't buy new clothes.

Saki Aibu played the manager of the boating team and was the female lead while Shota Matsuda played the junior of Hayami in the team. Chinatsu Wakatsuki played Hayami's girlfriend living with him.

Since its debut 8 years ago, the series has achieved average ratings of 19.3% and is always shown in January.

Ryoko Shinohara starred in the NTV drama SP, "Woman's Island - Kanojotachi no Sentaku" shown on 24 Feb. This was the second time she worked with writer Mariko Hayashi who wrote the novel for "anego" as this new drama SP was also based on a novel by Hayashi. Shinohara plays an editor for a free newspaper by the name of Yuki who meets two other women working in the vicinity and this gives her the motivation to change her life. The story is partly based on the Shiseido CM which Shinohara co-stars with Chiaki Kuriyama, Misaki Ito and Yuri Ebihara. In fact, Kuriyama also acted in this drama SP. Fellow co-stars also include Haruka Igawa and Noriko Nakagoshi.

Amami Yuki starred in the FujiTV drama SP, "Kitchen Wars" shown on 25 Feb as a career woman who learns cooking for the sake of her only daughter. Although Amami can cook well in real life, she has to play this character, Makoto who knows nuts about cooking despite working in a company which imports Italian cooking utensils. When her husband (Sasaki Kuranosuke) who is a house-husband passes away suddenly, she has to take up the task of cooking for her only daughter and gets into arguments with her mother-in-law who belittles her. She joins a cooking school which is managed by Matsuzaka Keiko who plays a culinary expert.

Kamiki Ryunosuke starred in the NTV drama SP "Tantei Gakuen Q" based on the same titled comic which sold more than 7 million copies. The SP was shown on 1 July and he played a junior high student, Q who wants to be a detective. This was Kamiki's first leading role in a drama.
The comic by Amagi Seimaru and Satou Fumiya was serialised in Shonen Magazine from May 2001 to July 2005 and consists of 22 volumes. There was an anime version made by TBS in the past.
The case presented here would be the entrance exam into Dan Detective School held at an isolated island where 5 of the candidates join hands to solve the case of the serial murders before being accepted into the Q class.
