McLaren reveals MP4-23 in Stuttgart

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team is the second team to present its2008 championship contender. The Woking based team presented the MP4-23to the invited media in the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart, Germany.Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Daimler Board, and Ron Dennis,Chairman and CEO of the McLaren Group, welcomed all the guests to theofficial presentation, with Lewis Hamilton, who celebrates his 23rdbirthday today, and Heikki Kovalainen joined on stage by Pedro de laRosa and fellow test driver Gary Paffett to unveil the MP4-23. TheMP4-23 was completed yesterday and left the McLaren Technology Centrein the UK at around 18:00 GMT on Sunday and was driven in aMercedes-Benz Actros to the Mercedes-Benz Museum inStuttgart-Untert黵kheim, having covered approximately 1000kms, arrivingaround 10:00 this morning.Upon arrival in Stuttgart, the car was transported to the 53,000 sqmMercedes-Benz Museum, one of the world's largest and most renowned carmuseums. About 700 Mercedes-Benz employees from the nearbymanufacturing plant Stuttgart-Untert黵kheim had the opportunity toattend today's event at the end of their early shift alongside the morethan 400 media and other guests. The Mercedes-Benz employees had theopportunity to enter a draw of which the lucky winners were able tomeet and spend some time with Lewis and Heikki. Followingtoday's event the car will be transported to the Circuito de Jerez inSouthern Spain, where on Wednesday 9th January Heikki and Pedro willstart the test programme with two MP4-23 chassis at a private test. Theteam will remain at the circuit for five track days, excluding theweekend. Lewis will drive the 2008 car for the first time on Thursday10th January alongside Heikki.

Hamilton not team favourite - Whitmarsh

Monday 7 January at 19:27 : [color=blue ! important][color=blue ! important]McLaren will not abandon the policy of treating its [color=blue ! important][color=blue ! important]race [color=blue ! important]drivers equally in 2008, managing director Martin Whitmarsh insisted on Monday.

At the launch of the team's new car, the MP4-23, the Briton addressedspeculation that Heikki Kovalainen has been signed as an unofficial'number two' driver to support championship contender Lewis Hamiltonthis season.

In interviews prepared for the press for the launch event in Stuttgart,Kovalainen said his goal for the season was simply to "fight for a goodposition in the championship". Hamilton, rather - runner-up in 2007 -stated his intention to "try to go one better and win the drivers'world championship".

But despite the turmoil of the warring teammates Hamilton and FernandoAlonso last year, Whitmarsh is adamant that the new lineup will alsohave equal billing in 2008.

"Last year we treated the drivers the same, and we will do so this season," Whitmarsh is quoted as saying.

"We want to win the championship, we have no internal favourite. Both will have the same material and the same conditions."

PETALING JAYA: In conjunction with the 10th edition of the Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix from March 21-23, the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) are compiling images of the moments and colours at all the races in Sepang since 1999.

Those who have good and interesting images of magic moments can send them to the SIC for use in their publication and website.

An image selected will earn the sender a complimentary grandstand ticket to upcoming event in Sepang, which is the second round of the F1 championships this season.

Mustahil ler takyah bayar. Kat monaco pun kena bayar. Walaupun lumba kat jln biasa.....tp dia still consider sbg circuit. Takleh sesuka ati jer nak tgk tepi jln cam tgk lumba basikal le tour de langkawi tu.
