THE Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC), which has run foul of the Asian Bowling Federation for its refusal to pay a prize money of RM50,000 to a bowler for rolling a perfect game at the 2006 Malaysian International Open, is ready to take the matter to the Lausanne (Switzerland)-based Court of Arbitration for Sports.
The ABF has decided to not sanction tournaments hosted by MTBC, prompting president Datuk Dr P.S. Nathan to brand the Asian body as "liars" for claiming that the decision was made at its General Assembly in Jakarta last August.
This controversy surfaced after the ABF had informed all its affiliates that it will not sanction any tournaments in Malaysia following MTBC抯 refusal to pay a prize money of RM50,000 to Saeed Ibrahim of the United Arab Emirates for his perfect game of 300 last March.
Dr Nathan insists that the ABF did not make a decision to penalise MTBC at the General Assembly.
"I抦 rather stunned with the matter. Secretary (of MTBC) Sidney Tung and I attended the meeting and the ABF did not make any decision on penalising the MTBC," said Dr Nathan at the Sunway Megalanes at Bandar Sunway on Tuesday.
"We want them to show us proof that a decision was made in the assembly. We have requested for the minutes of the assembly to be distributed to all federations and after five requests over the past six months, none of the federations have received anything from them."
Saeed had filed a formal protest to the ABF via the Emirates Bowling Federation when MTBC had failed to pay him the prize money after he bowled a 300-game in the event.
Dr Nathan said he had received reports that the ABF is now seeking legal advice if it should release the minutes of the assembly.
"I really don抰 understand why they need to refer to a lawyer. The minutes is a property to federations. Affiliates have the right to the minutes. Now, why are they hesitant?"
Dr Nathan said the MTBC has also taken the matter to the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA).
"The world body has asked for the minutes of the assembly from ABF, however, it抯 been three weeks now and they have yet to get it," he said.
On the issue whether the protest filed by the bowler (Saeed) was in accordance with the tournament抯 rules and regulations, Dr Nathan said the rules clearly state that a bowler must file a complaint in writing to the organisers within 48 hours.
"The bowler did not file the protest within the stipulated time frame and as far as we are concerned, his complaint is time-barred.
"He only filed the complaint a few days after the time frame."
On whether the MTBC will still organise the Malaysian International Open (March 11-24) despite not getting ABF抯 sanction, he said the event will be changed into an invitational.
"The tournament will be known as the Malaysian Invitational International Open. Apart from offering attractive prize money, invited federations will not have to pay game fees. This is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the tournament and Visit Malaysia Year," Dr Nathan disclosed.
"It抯 the first tournament in the world to offer fee-free games. Bowlers from Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and India have confirmed their entries.
"There are also indications that bowlers from South Korea and Indonesia will be coming." |

Shalin kekal dalam skuad elit

RATU bowling negara, Shalin Zulkifli masih dalam skuad elit kebangsaan meskipun tiada perjanjian hitam putih antaranya dengan Kesatuan Tenpin Bowling Malaysia (MTBC).
Mengikut persetujuan antara pemain itu dengan MTBC, tahun lalu, kontrak Shalin tamat sejurus tirai Sukan Asia Doha dilabuhkan dan sehingga kini masih belum ada kenyataan rasmi daripada MTBC mengenai perkara itu.

Beng Khai, Qistina juara

KHOO Beng Khai dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Xavier dan Qistina Talib dari SMK Perempuan St George menjuarai Kejohanan Tenpin Bowling Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Pulau Pinang (MSSPP) selama lima hari yang berakhir di Mega Lanes, Seberang Perai, kelmarin.
Khoo menjatuhkan 1,697 pin untuk menjuarai kategori master lelaki bawah 18 tahun manakala Qistina pula menjurai kategori perempuan apabila menjatuhkan 1,191 pin.
Tempat kedua lelaki dimenangi oleh Jason Yam Khai Dong dari SMK Jalan Damai dengan jatuhan 1,564 pin dan ketiga Alvin Brian dari SMK St Xavier dengan jatuhan 1,437 pin.
Untuk kategori perempuan bawah 18 tahun, tempat kedua dimenangi oleh Siti Nur Asyikin Sipun dari SMK Pauh Jaya bila berjaya menjatuhkan 1,184 pin dan ketiga Kamariah Mat Desa dengan jatuhan 1,177 pin.
Bagi kategori master bawah 15 tahun lelaki, Ahmad Safwan Shaharudin dari SMK Tun Hussein Onn menjatuhkan 1,449 pin untuk menjuarainya.
Tempat kedua dimenangi oleh Muhd Afiq Wafiy Kamaruddin dari SMK Pokok Sena dengan jatuhan 1,432 pin dan ketiga Aliff Imran Adi Nasution dari SMK Pauh Jaya dengan jatuhan 1,375 pin.
Siti Nurnadia Radzi Woo dari SMK Seberang Jaya menjatuhkan 1,505 pin untuk menjuarai kategori master perempuan bawah 15 tahun dan Samantha Chong dari SMK (P) Methodist pula menjauhkan 1,413 pin untuk menduduki tempat kedua dan Izzati Zuhaili Mohd Mazli dari SMK Tinggi Bukit Mertajam menjatuhan 1,297 pin untuk menduduki tempat ketiga.
Juara bagi kategori all events lelaki bawah 12 tahun dimenangi oleh Mohd Nazmi Mohd Mazli dari SK Bukit Minyak, kedua Mohd Amir Ariffin juga dari SK Bukit Minyak dan Toh Yioh Sheng dari SJK(C) Li Hwa Seberang Perai ketiga.
Kategori perempuan bawah 12 tahun dimenangi oleh Iver Tan dari SK Perempuan Island, kedua Tang Shin Jee dari SJK(C) Keong Hoe dan ketiga Nor Amira Auni dari SK Seberang Jaya 2. |

Afifah sapu semua acara

PEMAIN Kinta, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Amin menyapu bersih semua acara yang disertai pada Kejohanan Tenpin Bowling Majlis Sukan Sekolah-sekolah Perak (MSSPK) 2007 di Taiping, baru-baru ini.
Pelajar tingkatan lima itu nyata terlalu handal buat peserta lain dalam acara perseorangan, beregu, All Events, Masters dan berpasukan bagi kategori bowling perempuan bawah 18 tahun.
Turut cemerlang ialah pemain bawah 12 tahun perempuan dan lelaki, Ainaa Khairina Azman dan Syed Mohd Fadzil yang meraih tiga emas.
Ainaa yang mewakili Teknikal selepas tidak dipilih oleh Daerah Manjung meraih emas dalam acara perseorangan, All Events dan Masters.
Selain itu pelajar darjah enam itu juga meraih perak dalam acara beregu bergandingan dengan adiknya, Aida Yasmin.
Manakala Syed Mohd Fadzil dari Kinta mengutip emas acara perseorangan, All Events dan Masters serta gangsa dalam acara beregu ketika berpadu tenaga dengan Muhd Farhan. |
