The Korea Film Actor’s Association held a year-end night of events on December 28. At this event, director Kim Ki-duk received a lifetime achievement award. During the acceptance speech, Kim praised, Cho Min-soo and Lee Jung-jin, two actors who worked with him in Pieta, saying they’re like good water color with which he was able to paint a good picture. He also said, “I’ve made 18 films in the past 15 years. It’s important for films to be screened at theaters but I kept on thinking hard about what I could do in this world with my films.” He went on to say, “Actors are the most important aspects of one’s film and I’m so happy to be given an award along with my actors, Cho and Lee.”
Cho Min-soo who also received the achievement award said “I’m so moved. I think children might say that actor is the most respected job in the world after this year. This is all thanks to my senior actors who worked so hard before me.” Lee Jung-jin said, “It’s an honor to be on this very meaningful stage and I think our win at Venice happened thanks to all of my senior actors. I hope that many Korean actors and actresses will continue to do well at Berlin and Cannes.”
Actor Lee Byung-hun was given the achievement award as he was the first Korean actor to do the hand printing in Hollywood. He was given the award along with actor Ahn Sung-ki. Lee took part in the hand printing ceremony at the Chinese Mann’s Theater in Hollywood in June of last year. The first Asian film professional to do the handprinting there was director John Woo and Lee and Ahn were the first Asian actors to do so.
Lee said, “I believe I was invited to do the handprinting in Hollywood as I was lucky enough to be born in the right era. My seniors did much better things than myself but I was just lucky. I don’t know how I will influence actors who will come after me, but I hope to provide a stage where they’ll be able to exude their talent with no limits."
January 6. 2013 Singapore's i-weekly magazine, No 793 (10 Jan 2013)
Last August, 42-year-old Lee Byung Hun officially acknowledged 30-year-old Lee Min Jung as his girlfriend and it was only near the end of December that their couple photos were then taken by the media. Lee Min Jung drove Lee Byung Hun around in a branded car that day. Lee Byung Hun alighted and walked towards the direction of the road in a very-gentlemanly way, protecting the safety of his girlfriend. They held hands like twins and were both radiant with happiness. After the photos were exposed, netizens one after another exclaimed: "Quickly get married!", "It looks like a drama!".
SINGAPORE - Sometimes it's "for art". Other times, it's just, well, plain gratuitous. But whatever the reason, audiences sure don't mind seeing well-muscled, hot young things on the big screen. Look out for these flicks that celebrate some good ol' manly sex appeal.
1 Young And Dangerous: Reloaded
This reboot of the original '90s classic revolves around the trials and tribulations of four young triad members seeking vengeance in the dark underbelly of Hong Kong's gangster scene. Besides a line-up of buffed men, producer Wong Jing promises more action than the original. The cast is relatively new but this film might just be the catalyst to launch their careers. Opens tomorrow.
2 GI Joe: Retaliation
The GI Joes are back and this time, not only do they go head to head with mortal enemy Cobra - they are forced to contend with threats from within the government, which may jeopardise their existence. Veteran action stars Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson (and his signature guns) join the fray to give 2012's Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum a run for his money. Not that he needs any more competition - Korean sensation Lee Byung-Hun's stunning physique pretty much stole the show the last time around (at least for this writer), and he's reprising his role as Storm Shadow. Opens March 29.
3 Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D
Visionary film-maker James Cameron and director Andrew Adamson bring the big top to the big screen with this new 3D adventure. It follows a young couple that is separated and must journey through the dream-like worlds of Cirque du Soleil to find each other again. Sure, half-naked bodies aren't a major selling point here but you can expect to see plenty of them, anyway. And in 3D too. Opens tomorrow.
So K-ent has been awash in just the first twelve days of 2013 alone with a veritable avalanche of hook ups and break ups, as if some tricksy elf spiked the water supply in Yeouido and Chungmuro with love potion. The biggest “OMG I Can’t Believe They’re Dating” moment (not to be confused with “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”) came courtesy of Kim Tae Hee and Rain being snapped on a cold dark night clearly not trying hard enough to be incognito. Perhaps worried that their status as the Top Dog of Hallyu couples might be usurped by these newcomers, Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min Jung were similarly snapped by the gossip rag Dispatch out strolling the streets on a date. Of course they weren’t outed since they admitted to dating during the Summer last year, but this would mark the first photographic evidence of the couple out and about. Why K-ent couples don’t emulate TW-ent couples and do couple endorsements and red carpet walks together beats me. These grainy pictures are hardly juicy enough to ship. Lee Min Jung certainly looks happy to hang on to her man’s arm, though he could be a tad more into her if body language is to be believed. This seemingly random real life coupling just reminds me that real life shipping onscreen couples should be fun but not taken seriously. There are tons of fans who shipped Lee Min Jung with her co-stars such as Jung Kyung Ho from Smile, You or Gong Yoo in Big, but clearly the girl has a type and its not either of those guys. Considering Lee Byung Hun’s age, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them walk down the aisle or else break up this year. They are both old enough to know what they want and either its right or its not. Good luck to them and please give me some official couple appearances just for pretty’s sake.
Clearer look at Hot Toy's insane looking G.I. Joe: Retaliation Storm Shadow
GeneralJoes.com
For folks like friend of the site Arune Singh, who longs for a shirtless Lee Byung-Hun, this 12″ representation of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation Storm Shadow looks like he might be just what the doctor ordered. A promotional image circulating features a decent up close look of the upcoming Cobra Ninja, and it looks awesome.
Folks who like the movie appearance of Storm Shadow (and yes, I am one of them) this figure looks very, very cool. You can almost feel the depth and quality of the trenchcoat through the picture on the computer screen. Roadblock is featured in the image as well, though he’s a bit blurry and in the background. Big thanks to geektrooper on Tumblr for the heads up.
