William digelar 'pemimpin berjiwa rakyat'
Perdana Menteri New Zealand, John Key, menggambarkan putera itu, ‘seorang pemuda amat menawan.’
“Beliau kelihatan santai. Saya mendapati dia mempesonakan. Saya tidak pasti apa harus dijangka namun beliau amat merendah diri serta berperwatakan kelakar,” kata Key kepada radio Newstalk ZB. - Reuters |

Prince William visits Australia as preferred future king
SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - Prince William flew into Sydney on Tuesday for his first visit to Australia since he was a baby, with a poll showing Australians would prefer the young British prince as their next king over his father Prince Charles.
Prince William, who is second in line to the British throne, arrived from New Zealand amid tight security in the second stage of his first official solo tour overseas to represent his grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

| The last time the 27-year-old prince visited Australia was in 1983 in the arms of his mother, Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris nearly 13 years ago. Prince Charles went on to marry Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Asked if the prince's three-day visit could rekindle an affection for the monarchy, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said: "There's an affection for the Queen herself, and there's clearly an affection for Prince William."
An poll by Newspoll for British media company ITN and Australia's Seven Network found that 58 percent of about 1,200 Australians surveyed last weekend said William should be the next monarch after Queen Elizabeth while 30 percent backed Charles.
Prince William, who is training in the Royal Air Force, was particularly liked by women with 63 percent wanting to see him succeed the Queen and only 28 percent preferring Charles.
However Australians were in no rush for change, with only 29 percent saying the 83-year-old Queen Elizabeth should stand down to make way for a new monarch.
Australia's republicans, who want to ditch the British monarch as head-of-state for a homegrown president, has the backing of most people in the country, a former British colony that is now an independent federation of states.
But the movement has made little headway since a 1999 vote on a republic failed because Australians could not agree on the type of republic.
Australia's Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and many in his government are avowed republicans but Rudd has dismissed another vote on the issue anytime soon, saying it is not a priority for his government.
After arriving in Sydney, Prince William was whisked off to lunch with Governor-General Quentin Bryce, the Queen's representative in Australia, and was scheduled to meet representatives of the Aboriginal community in inner-city Redfern
On Wednesday he will visit Sydney's Holsworthy Barracks, Sydney Harbour and finally attend a barbecue in the Botanical Gardens then visit Melbourne on Thursday before returning to Britain on Friday. |

William bertunang Jun ini
2010/04/08
LONDON: Istana Buckingham dijangka mengumumkan tarikh pertunangan Putera William dan kekasihnya, Kate Middleton, pada Jun ini sebelum perkahwinan diraja diadakan akhir tahun.
BAKAL BERSATU...selepas menjalin hubungan
- Agensi |

Kate can't marry William in Scotland
BELINDA TASKER
April 11, 2010 - 7:44PM
Kate Middleton has had to give up her dream of marrying Prince William in Scotland as speculation mounts that the couple will announce their engagement soon.
The 28-year-old had hoped to marry her prince in the Scottish Highlands, well away from London and all the memories of Prince Charles' 1981 fairytale wedding to Princess Diana in St Paul's Cathedral.
Kate is believed to have had her heart set on a romantic ceremony at the 900-year-old St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh because Scotland is where she and William met while studying at university.
However, royal aides noted that it would be constitutionally impossible for William and Kate to marry anywhere but England, given he is second in line to the throne.
"Palace officials have been under huge pressure from Kate to try to persuade the Queen to agree to a Scottish wedding," one source told The Sunday Express.
"Scotland will always have a special place in Kate's heart because that is where she met William.
"Kate is adamant that she does not want to get married in London, especially not at St Paul's Cathedral because of the previous associations with Charles and Diana.
"Nor does she want to marry in Westminster Abbey because there have been so many royal and state funerals there."
The latest speculation about the couple's wedding plans follows reports last week that they were planning to announce their engagement in June before marrying in November.
Royal sources have played down that idea, noting that William will be carrying out several royal engagements in June and embarking on his first joint tour with his brother, Prince Harry.
June also marks William's 28th birthday.
But while royal watchers wait for William to pop the question, separate reports are claiming that he and Kate already consider themselves to be engaged.
"All this expectation and sense of pressure surrounding Kate and William isn't coming from inside their relationship," an insider told The Mail on Sunday.
"Neither of them is speculating about marriage or asking each other where it's going. They had those conversations a long time ago.
"As far as they're concerned, they are engaged and enjoying their lives as they are at the moment."
The latest debate about William and Kate's wedding plans coincided with separate reports claiming that legal advice which enabled Prince Charles to marry Camilla Parker Bowles will remain secret until after his death.
Britain's Information Commissioner has blocked the release of advice given to the government which is believed to have paved the way for the couple to marry in a register office in 2005 despite fears that legally they were banned from doing so.
Meanwhile, the Queen has problems other than royal weddings on her plate.
Her royal chambermaids are preparing to walk off the job in a dispute about unpaid overtime.
One maid has already resigned in protest at having to help out during evening functions at Buckingham Palace without being paid overtime rates.

June engagement for Prince William and Kate, report says
2010/04/07
Lesley Ciarula Taylor Staff Reporter
Buckingham Palace will announce the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton in June, journalist Tina Brown discloses in a blog on her online site, the Daily Beast.
Brown, who was a friend of William’s mother Diana, the late Princess of Wales, quotes a “high-placed source in royal circles” as telling her that two days in June have been blocked out on the palace calendar and it’s likely reserved to announce a wedding.
William, second in line to the throne after his father Prince Charles, and Middleton have been dating for eight years. The couple met at university.
But even while praising Brown’s “impeccable credentials with British aristocracy,” the Daily Mail on Wednesday couldn’t let the musings go unchallenged.
“Prince William has never given the merest hint about what is on his mind regarding his relationship with Kate Middleton and his office is under the clear impression that if he does decide to pop the question, they will only be told a matter of days or even hours before he wants the world to know,” one long-winded source told the Mail.
Another source pointed out that William, who is in the Royal Air Force helicopter school, would be training on June 3 and 4, the dates Brown said are marked for an announcement.
Brown, who is British, runs through all the possible dates and reasons. The wedding, she says, would probably be in November, as was the wedding of Wills’s grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
A June engagement and winter wedding, she says, “make sense for the royal priorities”: after the May 6 election, just before Wills, 27, starts a three-year stint as a search and rescue pilot, before Philip turns 90 in June 2011, before the Queen’s diamond jubilee in February 2012.
“But perhaps even more important,” Brown says, “is to avoid any throwback seasonable resonance with the legendary February engagement and July wedding of William’s parents” in 1981.
Brown devotes several inches to a choice of venue for the future King of England and his bride, also plagued by what she calls “Di phobia” and the dewy memory of the young Princess of Wales at St. Paul’s Cathedral. There’s always Westminster Abbey but Brown cautions that Kate, a commoner albeit “quietly ambitious and gently pushy,” might find it “unfashionably grand.”
Anyway, Kate, 28, will get her shot at Westminster “when she is finally crowned Queen,” says Brown.
Signs – among them, a wedding planner hired in December and a secret summit in January – have been pointing in the direction of a wedding for some time, according to two painstaking royal-watching websites, williamkate.com and britishroyalwedding.com. |

Prince William finally became engaged to longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton, fronting the media together for the first time after giving her his late mother's engagement ring.
Royal officials announced on Tuesday that William will marry Middleton next spring or summer in London, ending years of rumoured splits, reconciliations and will-they, won't-they speculation. The college romance that seemed to wilt under the pressure of adulthood and the glare of the paparazzi had blossomed at last.

Britain now has the prospect of its biggest royal wedding since Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer almost 30 years ago.
William proposed during a holiday in Kenya last month and gave Kate the oval blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds from jeweller Garrard that his mother, Princess Diana, once wore as her engagement ring.
"It's my mother's engagement ring, so of course it's very special to me.
"This was my way of making sure that my mother didn't miss out on today," William said as the couple posed for photographers inside St James's Palace on Tuesday.
Diana divorced Charles in 1996 and was killed the following year in a car crash in Paris.
William is second in line to the British throne after Charles, his father. Kate and William's first child would move ahead of his younger brother Prince Harry to become third in line to the throne.
"Blimey," said William as he faced a torrent of camera flashes at St James's Palace. He wore a navy suit, Kate a simple blue dress.
Middleton acknowledged that being queen was "a daunting prospect" and declined to say whether the prince had gone down on bended knee when he proposed.
"It's quite a daunting prospect but hopefully I'll take it my stride. But William's a great teacher so hopefully he'll be able to help me along the way," Middleton said, after it was announced the couple had got engaged after an eight-year romance and will marry in London next year.
She said William, the second-in-line to the throne, popped the question during a "wonderful holiday" in Kenya in October.
"It was out there in a very quiet lodge and it was very romantic and it was a very personal time for both of us," said 28-year-old Middleton, who was wearing a blue satin dress while her husband-to-be wore a blue suit.
William admitted he had waited a long time to ask for Kate's hand in marriage.
"I don't remember how many years it's been, forgetful memory," he joked, adding, "The timing is right now, we're both very, very happy and I'm very glad that I have done it."
Many in Britain welcomed the royal engagement as a rare piece of good news in a time of economic uncertainty and cutbacks - a time much like 1981, when millions watched Charles and Diana's fairytale wedding. Their marriage eventually ended in divorce, but no-one was dwelling on that detail on Tuesday.
Few were surprised by the news. Kate and William's engagement was the safest bet in Britain, an event so certain that bookies had stopped taking bets on a 2011 wedding. The date avoids London's summer Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, both being held in 2012.
The formal engagement is likely to turn the poised, brunette Middleton - already depicted approvingly in the fashion pages - into a global icon. With her confident good looks and long brown hair, Middleton has already become one of the most photographed women in Britain.
The palace will be hoping that she combines Diana's glamour and charm with a more commonsense approach to life. At 28, Middleton is considerably older than Diana was when she wed at 20, and has had greater life experiences and longer training in dealing with the media |
