Alonso does everything but downplay rumours


Rather than downplay rumours that he couldbe off to Ferrari to replace Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso has insteadstoked the fires.

Following two retirements - and two mistakes - in the openingtwo races of the season, reports have emerged suggesting that theFerrari could replace Massa at the end of the season with Alonso andToro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel being the most likely candidates.

But while Toro Rosso have denied Vettel could be moving, Alonsohas revealed he has an escape clause in his contract that he may justuse if Ferrari continue to impress as they did in Malaysia.

"It's early to talk about moves and rumours, but Massa has hadtwo bad races with mistakes and that has kicked off speculation," thedouble World Champion said. "It's logical, but as I said, it's tooearly.

"I always try to be in the best car. I'm at Renault now becauseI wanted to go back to winning, like in 2005 and 2006. If not thisyear, then next year.

"But I have an option to leave so I can still be in the best possible car, and it is clear that Ferrari's is one of the best."
