Klang Valley residents fed up with water disruptions

KUALA LUMPUR: Klang Valley residents are seeing red over the multiple water disruptions since March.
Noorliani Mohamad Noor from Taman Pelangi here said she and neighbours panicked when they learnt about the unscheduled water supply cut yesterday.
"It was so sudden. We are clueless on what to do. We only heard that there was pollution (in Sungai Selangor).
"Usually, we will be notified earlier about the disruption so that we can stock up on water," she told the New Straits Times yesterday.
Norrasmawani Kamaruddin from Bestari Jaya, Selangor, said taps at her home had run dry since yesterday morning.
"It will be difficult for my family if the water cut goes beyond 48 hours. With two kids at home, how are they going to shower and how will I cook dinner or breakfast tomorrow?
"It has been a day and there are still no updates on when the water supply will resume. What is going on?"
Damansara resident K. Girija, 67, said the Selangor government should step up and tell the truth.
"I have been calling the Air Selangor hotline since morning. The operators just told me to download all the applications to stay updated.
"Can you imagine turning away senior citizens who are confused as to why there are no updates on what is going on?
"We paid our bills and I believe we deserve to be given hourly updates. Tell us, what has caused the pollution? Is it chemical pollution?
"And with Covid-19, how do you expect people to come out and queue up to stock up on water? It will be impossible to practise physical distancing. It is irresponsible if the old folk, whose kids are living faraway, have to come out for that. It is putting their health at risk."
For 23-year-old Puchong resident Azrief Syazwan Abd Razak, the water disruption was expected as he noticed that the water pressure at his house dropped on Wednesday night.
"The low water pressure did not just happen at my house. It hit my neighbourhood.
"We have been stocking up on water from the nearest public water pipe since last night (Wednesday)."
He said he was annoyed as the water disruption had been happening so often, especially since the middle of March.
"I have lost count of the number of times that this has happened. This is terrible because it is a hassle for all of us.
"Apart from the water disruption, even when the water supply is working, the water itself is smelly. I am very unhappy with this situation."

Hollywood hunk Idris Elba too has fallen victim to the coronavirus after his test results came out positive on 16 March. He had isolated himself since 13 March after coming to know that he was in contact with a corona carrier. So far he is showing no symptoms of the virus, but has quarantined himself with his wife Sabrina Dhowre, who also tested positive for Covid-19 a few days later. Both said that they were feeling okay. According to doctors, their antibodies had fought the virus.

Music mogul Lucian Grainge, CEO and chairman of Universal Music Group was tested and found positive for Covid-19 around March 14 or 15, according to Forbes. One of the most powerful men in the music industry, Grainge is currently undergoing treatment at the UCLA Medical Center.

The 41-year-old singer had travelled to London and returned to India just last week. She had apparently thrown a lavish party on her return.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has coronavirus
English football club Arsenal’s head coach, ex-Spanish footballer Mikel Arteta, tested positive for COVID-19 on 12 March 2020, compelling the Premier League club to declare quarantine for its entire first team while shutting down its training complex.
Manager Arteta appears to have contracted the Coronavirus after a Europa League encounter with Olympiakos, end of February 2020, at the Gunners’ home ground, which ended in a meeting with the Greek side’s owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was later detected to have contracted the potentially lethal COVID-19.
Fortunately, Arteta appears to have recovered according to latest news reports.
Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for COVID-19
Another English Premier League club player, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, tested positive after displaying symptoms of mild cold on 09 March 2020.
The 19-year-old footballer confirmed on social media after two days that he has recovered from it, but will be following the self-isolation programme recommended for those affected with coronavirus.
As a result, the full Chelsea squad has gone into quarantine, while UEFA has called off Champions League matches indefinitely.
However, latest news reports confirm that Hudson-Odoi has now recovered.
Coronavirus diagnosed in Daniele Rugani and Manolo Gabbiadini
Italy, which is reeling most after China from the Coronavirus contagion, now has football celebrities too lined up in the COVID-19 affected list.
First to test positive for coronavirus was the national team and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, although the Turin-based Serie A team stated that he was not exhibiting any symptoms when it announced the news on 11 March 2020. Next in line from the Old Lady of Turin was French national and Juve midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who is asymptomatic and voluntarily undergoing home quarantine.
In another announcement the following day, one more Serie A player, Sampdoria striker Manolo Gabbiadini, also tested positive but reassured on Twitter that there was nothing to worry about.
Valencia Football Club hit by coronavirus
Five Valencia players tested positive for COVID-19 after diagnosis on Sunday, 15 March 15, after a home game against Italian side Atalanta on 10 March.
According to BBC Sport, Valencia and Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay and centre-back Eliaquim Mangala were among the five players infected.
About 35% of the Valencia team, which included some of their backroom staff too, has been confirmed as carriers of the coronavirus, a report from Independent revealed.

Another footballer testing positive for Covid-19 is China’s Wu Lei who plays in Spain with La Liga club Espanyol. According to the club, six more unnamed members of the club staff have also tested positive.

Gobert tested positive on 11 March and Mitchell the following day. Wood’s condition came to light on 14 March. Earlier, the Pistons had played against the Jazz and Woods was mostly shadowing Gobert throughout the match.
Brooklyn Nets’ small forward, the 6-foot-10 Kevin Durant was found to be carrying the coronavirus along with three other teammates, according to a team announcement on March 17. Only one among them is reported to be exhibiting symptoms, while the other three are asymptomatic. Names of the other three remain a mystery.

Princess Maria Teresa

Born in 1933 in Paris, Maria Teresa never married and is survived by four of her six siblings. She is the first royal casualty to Covid-19.

Former Miss Italy and actress Lucia Bosé died on March 23, 2020, at the age of 89, after contracting Covid-19.
Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz
The first high-profile coronavirus fatality was former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz. Testing positive for Covid-19 and fighting the virus for eight days at home, the 76-year-old succumbed to complications that arose due to kidney failure on March 21, 2020.
Francisco Garcia
The youth team coach of Atletico Portada Alda, of Malaga, Spain, 21-year-old Francisco Garcia, died after being diagnosed with the lethal combination of coronavirus and also a pre-existing condition of Leukaemia on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Chinese director Chang Kai
On February 14, Chinese film director Chang Kai was one of the earliest high profiles in China to fall prey to the deadly coronavirus, which also engulfed his parents earlier and his sister a few hours after his death. the 55-year-old director’s wife was said to be in critical condition. He is survived by his son who lives in London.

Most tragic was the death of the Chinese doctor Li Wenliang, who was trying to warn the world against this deadly virus. Wenliang died on February 7, 2020, at the age of 34, after being affected while coming into contact with patients in Wuhan, China.

Jair Bolsonaro and Paulo Dybala
Refuting rumours about being diagnosed positive for COVID-19, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Argentina and Juventus football star Paulo Dybala assured that they were not carrying the coronavirus. However, Dybala was later found to be carrying the virus, according to a March 22 report by Forbes. Both Dybala and his girlfriend, Oriana Sabatini (who also tested positive), are currently self-isolated in their home.
Spanish King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia
The royal couple of Spain got tested for the novel coronavirus after coming into contact with Minister of Equality Irene Montero, who was among those infected by the deadly disease in Spain. The coronavirus pandemic has spread to at least 188 countries and territories, with the worldwide death toll from the virus reaching more than 863,057.
Among the more than 26 million cases recorded globally are government officials, celebrities and sports personalities as authorities around the world grapple to contain the spread of the virus.
Many high-profile events have been cancelled. They include the annual Met Gala - often referred to as fashion's biggest night out - which was postponed indefinitely from its scheduled date in May, according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in the United States.
The Cannes Film Festival, due to be held in France in May, has also been postponed, with organisers now looking at June or July dates.
Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and his wife, actress and singer Rita Wilson, British actor Idris Elba, Britain's Prince Charles, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, singer Pink and opera singer Placido Domingo are some of the best-known people to be infected so far.

Maumoon Abdul Gayoom: The former Maldives president said he tested positive for COVID-19 on August 25. In a Twitter post, the 82-year-old said he wished for a "speedy recovery and good health" for himself and "all other sick people".
Eduardo Ano: The philippine interior secretary, who is helping to spearhead the country's coronavirus response, tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing flu-like symptoms, authorities said on August 17.
Raul Grijalva: A high-ranking member of the US Congress from the state of Arizona announced on August 2 that he has the coronavirus.
Tareck El Aissami: The Venezuelan oil minister contracted the COVID-19 disease on July 10, he said on Twitter, a day after the leader of the socialist party, Diosdado Cabello, tested positive for the virus as well.
Jeanine Andez: Bolivia's president said on July 9 on her Twitter account that she has tested positive for coronavirus. The Bolivian government confirmed that at least seven ministers, including the country's health minister, had tested positive and were either undergoing treatment or recuperating at home.
Jair Bolsonaro: Brazil's president tested positive for COVID-19 on July 7 after months of downplaying the virus's severity.
Michelle Bolsonaro: Brazil's first lady tested positive for the new coronavirus, the government announced on July 30, five days after her husband Jair Bolsonaro said he had recovered from his COVID-19 infection.
Kwaku Agyemang-Manu: Ghana's health minister contracted COVID-19 "in the line of duty", but is in a stable condition, the West African nation's president said on June 14.
Riek Machar: South Sudan's vice president and his wife Angelina Teny, who serves as defence minister, tested positive for the coronavirus, his office said on May 18.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmad: Pakistan's railways minister tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a ministry statement on June 8.

Abba Kyari: The Nigerian president's chief of staff has tested positive for coronavirus, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said on March 24. In his 70s, Kyari is an important figure in President Muhammadu Buhari's government.
Rand Paul: The Republican from Kentucky is the first US senator to test positive for coronavirus.
Prince Albert: Monaco's Prince Albert II has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the principality said in a statement on Thursday, adding there were "no concerns for his health" and that the titular head of the Mediterranean enclave is continuing to work from his private apartments at the royal palace.
Michel Barnier: The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator said in a tweet that he has tested positive for the virus.
Bento Albuquerque: Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro said on Wednesday that Mines and Energy Minister Bento Albuquerque has tested positive for coronavirus - the second cabinet member to be infected.
Augusto Heleno: Brazil's national security adviser said on March 18 on his Twitter account that he has tested positive for coronavirus, though he did not have any symptoms. Heleno, 72, a retired army general and one of Bolsonaro's closest aides, said he is currently under isolation at his home while waiting for a second test.
Jeremy Issacharoff: Israel's ambassador to Germany has tested positive for the coronavirus, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement March 17. Issacharoff was reported to have contracted the virus following a meeting with a deputy from the Federal Assembly of Germany, whose name was not mentioned.
Friedrich Merz: The 64-year-old politician, who has been campaigning to lead Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) at a congress planned for this year, said on Twitter on March 17 that he tested positive for coronavirus and was under self-isolation at home.

Massoumeh Ebtekar: The Iranian vice president is the country's highest government official to be infected, while several other senior officials in the country, including Iraj Harirchi, Iran's deputy health minister, were also stricken. Iran is the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in the Middle East.
Sophie Gregoire Trudeau: On March 12, the wife of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau tested positive for COVID-19 following a trip to the United Kingdom. Gregoire Trudeau said she planned to remain in isolation for the next two weeks, together with her husband. Her symptoms have been described as mild.
Begona Gomez: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's wife tested positive, officials in his office said late on Saturday. While Begona Gomez tested positive, the health of both she and the prime minister was fine, the officials said. Spain said it would place the entire country under lockdown as the number of diagnosed cases exceeded 6,000.
Quim Torra: The local leader of Spain's Catalonia region said on March 16 that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and that he was going into self-isolation in a government building.

Stanislas Ouaro: Burkina Faso's minister of education is confirmed to have COVID-19.

He was hospitalised on April 5 in what his office described as a "precautionary step". Johnson was moved to the intensive care unit on April 6 after his symptoms worsened, and asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise for him "where necessary".
Matthew Hancock: Britain's Health Secretary Matthew Hancock announced on March 27 he tested positive for the coronavirus. Hancock said he would be self-isolating and working from home.
Alister Jack: Scottish Secretary and member of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's cabinet has developed symptoms of COVID-19.
Seyi Makinde: Nigeria's Oyo State Governor has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Yaakov Litzman: Israel's health minister and his wife tested positive for the novel coronavirus on April 1.
Ali Larijani: Iran's parliament said on April 2 its speaker tested positive for the coronavirus and is in quarantine.
Zoran Zaev and Hristijan Mickoski: On April 10 the leaders of North Macedonia's two biggest parties were ordered to self-isolate for two weeks after being interviewed by a TV reporter infected with coronavirus.
Khalif Mumin Tohow: The justice minister of Somalia's autonomous Hirshabelle state died on April 12 after contracting the coronavirus. Tohow died in Mogadishu's Martini hospital a day after he tested positive for COVID-19 in the town of Jowhar, the administrative capital of Hirshabelle.
Sekou Kourouma: The secretary general of Guinea and a former minister, died from COVID-19 in Conakry on April 18.
Nuno Gomes Nabiam: Guinea-Bissau's prime minister, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus alongside three members of his cabinet, the West African country's health ministry said on April 29.
Mikhail Mishustin: Russia's prime minister, on April 30 said in a video meeting with President Vladimir Putin that he tested positive for coronavirus and will self-isolate to protect other cabinet members.

Juan Orlando Hernandez: The president of Honduras said on June 16 that he tested positive for coronavirus. He was hospitalised the next day, and he is currently being treated for pneumonia. The president's wife Ana Garcia also tested positive, along with two presidential aides, but has not presented any symptoms of the disease.
Nursultan Nazarbayev: Kazakhstan's 79-year-old former president and official 'Leader of the Nation' tested positive for the coronavirus on June 18.
Zafar Mirza: Special assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and de facto health minister tested positive for the coronavirus on July 6.
Geoffrey Onyeama: Nigeria's foreign affairs minister has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced on July 19.

James Dolan: The 64-year-old New York Knicks owner has tested positive for the coronavirus. He is the first known major professional sports owner in the US to have contracted COVID-19. Ottawa Senators: An unidentified Ottawa Senators player has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the first known case in North America's National Hockey League. Deportivo Alaves: The Spanish football club confirmed a total of 15 positive coronavirus cases, including three players from the first-team squad and seven members of the coaching staff. None of those affected have displayed any symptoms, the La Liga side said in a statement on March 18.
