Tak salah aku la.....idea highway PLUS ni dicetuskan oleh Tan Sri Halim Saad, tapi di serahkan pada syarikat GLC (government link company) iaitu dgr2 nya khazanah nasional berhad sbb beliau mengalami masalah bebanan hutang sehingga RM10billion waktu tu disebabkan kos pembuatan highway mmg tinggi. Agak logik sampai berbillion sbb dikirakan pada asas tanah yg perlu dibeli oleh plus sepanjang highway yg berjarak 800+ kilometer drpd rakyah tempatan dicampur pula dgn kos pembuatan materialnya walaupun dibuat secara berdikit (selatan ke region tgh, pastu region tgh ke region utara). |

The North-South Expressway (Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan) is the longest expressway in Malaysia with the total length of 966 km running from Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah near the Malaysian-Thai border to Johor Bahru at southern Malaysia. The expressway links many major cities and towns in western Peninsular Malaysia, acting as the 'backbone' of west coast of Peninsula Malaysia. It is also known as PLUS Expressway, named after the company that holds the concession of the expressway.
It is divided into a few main routes; E1 (northern route from Bukit Kayu Hitam to Kuala Lumpur) which also incorporates the Penang Bridge, E2 (southern route from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru). The North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) is linked from Bukit Lanjan exit in Kuala Lumpur to Bukit Raja, Klang and this short route is also included in E1 route. The North-South Expressway Central Link, E6, is a bypass highway which opened in 1999 which bypasses Kuala Lumpur and diverts off the E2 from the Bandar Baru Nilai interchange, past Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Putrajaya, Seafield into the Shah Alam interchange on the NKVE. The E3 is the Second Link (Linkedua) which is another bridge that links Malaysia and Singapore starting at Senai Airport and ends in Tanjung Kupang before crossing. PLUS also obtained the Seremban - Port Dickson Highway, E29, which starts at Mambau in Seremban with an interchange at Lukut and ending near the town centre in Port Dickson.
E1 and E2 are ended temporarily in Kuala Lumpur. The E1 from the North becomes the North Klang Valley Expressway which further links into the NSE Central Link or for people travelling to Kuala Lumpur exit at the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza which links to the SPRINT Expressway (E23) and the MRR I. The E2 from the South ends in Sungai Besi which then changes into the KL - Seremban Highway with interchanges to the Federal Highway Route 2, Sungai Besi Highway and heads towards the city centre. |

Overhead Bridge Restaurants on PLUS expressway (Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan)
Overhead Bridge Restaurants
![](http://www.plus.com.my/obr/images/obr-akh_new.jpg)
The Overhead Bridge Restaurants are one stop rest areas that provide a
variety of facilities for users. Straddling the Expressway, this one stop
convenient centre is the first of its kind in the country, enabling users to
enjoy the facilities offered at each bound of the highway. OBRs also give the
users a chance to enjoy their meals at one of the air-conditioned
restaurants as they observe the traffic below.
Located at two major sites: Sg. Buloh and Ayer Keroh, these OBRS namely
the Sungai Buloh OBR and the Ayer Keroh OBR are the preferred rest stop
areas for many users of the NSE. The number of travellers has increased
dramatically over the years due to the excellent facilities and variety of
restaurants and eateries provided there. |

NSE Construction
Fully operational in February 1994, the North-South Expressway was completed fifteen months ahead of schedule. This in itself proved to be a noteworthy achievement, earning PLUS the honour of being awarded the Prime Minister's Quality Award 1995. During construction in the years between 1988 and 1994, the Malaysian engineering community and construction industry were faced with many challenges, not least of which was the need to manage the implementation of the multi-billion ringgit project.
Traversing through terrain ranging from soft alluviums in the paddy fields of the northern state of Kedah to the rolling hills and mountains bordering the Main Range in the central region of the peninsula, the North-South Expressway formed a landmark undertaking by local consultants and contractors alike. Assisted by internationally recognised foreign counterparts, Malaysian consultants rose to the occasion, producing innovative designs such as the concrete viaducts used to carry the expressway over peat swamps in the southern region between Yong Peng and Skudai.
The NSE is designed to provide a four-lane dual carriageway with provision for the construction of an additional two lanes in future. In urban areas, the number of lanes is increased to six. Lane widths vary from 3.65 metres to 3.75 metres.
The width of the shoulder is 3 metres. The North-South Expressway is designed to accommodate speeds of up to 120 km/h, providing a margin of safety over the maximum speed limit of 110 km/h.The North-South Expressway consists of 674.15 km of asphaltic flexible pavement and 173.55 km of concrete rigid pavement. |
