hi all,
do u ever face ur PC slow and going to hang? i face this problem alot, but i seen before a computer technician just do some config setting and type some command in ms-dos, he use to free up the memory..do any one know how to do this? if not wrong, this method only apply at win95 and 98..not for XP...have any expert want to share here..

for starter try increase the virtual memory setting. nowadays pc hard disk storage capabilities are huge, how about set some amount maybe 1Gb per partitiion would help.

Speaking about abundance amount of hard drives spaces, try to partion it to smaller bits rather than having one humongous  partition.

try reduce the number background proccess thats running on your pc, they do chew a lot of RAM speed. I always kept my desktop shortcuts and taskbar shortcut at minimal,

I still remember junk program like the one that provided when we bought digital camera and digital camcorder (not their DRIVER), once you install it. It will automatically launch it self everytime you on the pc thats also chew your RAM.

Need to remember that XP it self need a lot of processor/ram speed to operate smoothly, so if your computer tech spech are low, just stick with windows 98.

there's a way you can tinkering with XP registry but carefull, make mistake you probably can't reboot your pc.

play around with the XP themes setting, taskbar setting and startup setting it does help a little.     

Lastly, there's always the option of upgrading your pc hardware. that maybe the best solution.

You can set ur PC for best performance..

Control Panel / System / Advanced / Performance / settings / Visual Effects
Adjust for best performance & ok.

Do Not Use Wallpaper.

Disable Windows Startup Programs
StartMenu / RUN..  type Msconfig / startup
and uncheck unwanted startup programs... and restart Windows.

Download CCleaner to removes unused and temporary files from your system .

got any more deep? such as adjest registry or typing some command in to msdos to free up the memories? or some setting in the config file?

all those msconfig i hv play since long time ago..it just take small effect..nothing help much..

yeah there's a book about tweaking the registry, try google it, but one thing that i know, MOST Xp tweaking available for NTFS format, and it does not guarantee the same result  when under FAT32, so if you run xp under NTFS (i think most of us do) go ahead and try it.

as for registry tweaking that's all i can tell you. I always avoid doing registry tweaking cause i'am worried about the reliability of the machine, Since XP unlike window98, they periodically update it's patch from microsoft via the internet (due XP vulnerability) there's always gonna have new registry inputs  store to the pc, that might cause conflict between tweaked registry and new the one.

pakai software Tuner...software tuh boleh detect problem tentang kelajuan dan boleh membuang file yg tak sepatutnya ader dlm pc ko mcm system mechanics pun boleh gak..tapi for me TuneUp Utilities is the best

i pernak tengok orang but setting di dalam config file, just delete some command dan add some command di config file dan save saja..itu computer betul betul cepat sikit...dia juga type sikit command dalam dos...dan terus tak lack...
dia cakap free computer punya memory...ada siapa tau tak? macam mana buat?

nak pc laju, harddisk kena la guna yg laju, cam 7200rpm ke, buffer pun atleast 8mb.
then kabel IDE gak guna yg ultra punya.

pasal setting, dalam windows xp kena set paging file cache minima ganda 1.5 dari ram yg kita install. (right klik my computer> properties> advanced> performance tab - settings> advanced tab> virtual memory - change> kat sini le korang pilih partition dan setkan. kalo tak reti, sila pilih "system managed" supaya windows akan allocate virtual memory size yg sesuai dgn sistem pc korang.

tips lagi, grafik kad seeloknya guna memory sendiri. kalo pakai grafik kad on board, pastikan ram yg ada - cukup utk run windows dan basic program macam antivirus dan windows component. seeloknya pakai classic theme, jgn guna theme pelik-pelik.

pastu buat disk clean-up dan defragment sebulan skali.
