Treaty of Waitangi adalah perjanjian di antara british dan pihak maori didalam penyerahan kuasa untuk memerintah new zealand.... treaty of waitangi telah ditandatangani pada 6 Feb 1840, dan skrg adalah public holiday di NZ.

sedih jugak tgk mcm mana puak maori diperbodoh kan oleh british dlm perjanjian ini....

alang ada extract drpd internet ttg treaty of waitangi, byk yg menerangkan ttg treaty ini such as dlm wikipedia...tp yg alang paste kt sini yg alang amik drpd website dibawah kerana ianya lebih ringkas:

New Zealand抯 Founding Document

Signed in 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement between the British Crown and Maori. It established British law in New Zealand, while at the same time guaranteeing Maori authority over their land and culture. The Treaty is considered New Zealand抯 founding document.

Declaration of Independence

After Captain Cook抯 exploration of New Zealand in the late 18th century, an increasing number of settlers came to New Zealand. By 1839, there were an estimated 2,000 Pakeha (Europeans) living in New Zealand. In 1833, after increasing lawlessness amongst traders and settlers, the British government appointed James Busby as British Resident to protect British trading interests and counter the growing lawlessness.

In 1835, the French were looking to trade and settle in New Zealand and had started to buy land. In response to this, the British Crown signed a Declaration of Independence with 34 northern Maori Chiefs. This declared New Zealand an independent state under British rule. It also stated that 憂o claim could be made on New Zealand without Maori agreement

Treaty of Waitangi

A treaty was drawn up and translated. After a day of debate, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February 6, 1840, at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands. Forty-three Northland Chiefs signed the treaty on that day. Over 500 Maori Chiefs signed it as it was taken around the country during the next eight months.

The grounds and building where the treaty was signed have been preserved. Today, the Waitangi Historic Reserve is a popular tourist attraction. There is a large Maori meeting house, the colonial mission house, an historic flagstaff, as well as a very long waka taua (Maori war canoe).

Open to Interpretation

While most treaties and contracts signed by Britain and her colonies during these times have been forgotten, the Treaty of Waitangi remains central to New Zealand law and society. It is considered by many to be the country抯 founding document. However, ever since its signing, the Treaty of Waitangi has presented many problems of interpretation.

The English and Maori versions of the treaty both contain three articles. However, as the Treaty was written and translated by people with little or no legal experience, the Maori translation differs widely in interpretation from the English version.

The first article covers sovereignty. The English version states that Maori give up their 慿awanatanga

Penjajah mmg mcm tu...
dgn senangnya org Maori tertipu...
nmpk sgt mcm perjanjian tu sengaja ditulis lain dlm versi Maori...
rasa mcm nk bunuh jer org yg buat tu.. :@ :@ :@

Itu la yg bakal terjadi sekiranya tok nenek kita dulu2 tak membantah cadangan British nk mewujudkan Malayan Union kt M'sia nih...
nasib baik mereka bersatu membantah cadangan Malayan Union...
maka, selamatlah org Melayu & potitik tanah Melayu masih dlm kekuasaan org Melayu smpai skrg...
kalo x, kita akan jadi mcm org Maori yg dh kehilangan tanah mereka...

aku setuju ngan ko... the same thing will happen to us kalu raja2 melayu tandatangani malayan union dulu...

in fact, kandungan treaty of waitangi pun hampir sama dgn apa yg kerajaan british propose dlm malayan union dulu, such semua org yang tinggal/ lahir di malayan union mempunyai hak yg sama irregardless u penduduk asal atau tak...

So kan dh tandatangan benda yg merugikan diri sendiri...

Betul... kalau ko dudk NZ ko akan realize puak maori ni mmg hidup mundur giler... kalau kt dlm u tu bole kira dgn jari berapa student maori ni... yg lain semua pakeha ataupun sudent asing... kalau ko nampak cam maori pun tak semestinya maori, kekadang student2 asing yg asal drpd kepulauan samoa atau fiji yg dtg belajar kt NZ....

Kuang ajor betul...
bape banyak bangsa kat dunia ni yang kena jajah, satu bangsa je dia minta maap.

geram tol aku...
setiap kali aku nampak ratu elizabeth tu pakai mahkota teringat je berlian kohinor yang derang rompak dari Mughal, india. tak sedor pakai barang rompakan.

Masa British menjajah India dulu ulamak-ulamak Islam sapa lawan Britishditangkap pastu ikat kat muncung meriam, satu ulamat satu meriam...
lepas tu...''fire'' kebabomm bersepai jenazah ulamak-ulamak tu...

ERm..tu taun bile ko pegi ade bape kerat je orang maori kat universiti? skang ni da ramai la gak orang2 maori yang dapat masuk universiti..ada gak antara dorg ni yang pandai gile..takde la mundur sangat pon..aku bukan nak pertahankan maori ni ke ape tapi dengan adenye treaty ni la wat orang maori leh hidup ngan aman damai cam skarang..at least dorg punye keharmonian terjamin..datuk moyang dorg dlu sign treaty ni so that dorg leh duk kat new zealand ni tanpa ade gangguan..kalo la dorg tak sign bnde tu dan kne halau dari negara tu..tak ke haru namenye tu..walaupon british memang tak adil dlm perjanjian tu tp sket sebyk ade manfaat tuk 2-2 pihak gak..

kalo kat NZ ni sape2 yang nak keje ngan government rasenye kene tau psal treaty of waitangi ni..especially kalo bab2 berkenaan ngn alam sekitar nih..maori ni sensitip sket ngan flora n fauna dorg..dorg anggap setiap bnde hidup tu tak kire la pokok ke menatang ke ade semangat sendiri..so takleh nak ubah ikut suka hati..dlu biotechnology punye company kalo nak produce satu bnde tu pon kne approved dr chief maori ni..

red cloud, chief of the sioux confederation in 19th century america, once said "the white man made many promises; more than I can remember. they broke all the promises except one. they promise to take our land which they did".

sapa yg rajin baca pasal cherokee nation kat america boleh paham yg walaupun bangsa red indian tu ada perlembagaan sendiri tapi kalau org putih nak ambik tanah mereka, mereka akan ambil juga tanpa berfikir dua kali.

kalau total student 5000 tp student maori hya 200-300 shj and the rest tu mat saleh and foreigner, do u consider it a lot? nampak sgt minoriti kan?

Mmg tak dinafikan dh ada maori yg berjaya such as in 2001 ada sorang maori pertama yag menjadi hakim di NZ (aku tak ingat mahkamah apa sbb aku bukan budak law)... tp sejak 1840, ini baru 1st maori jadi hakim??? setelah beratus tahun baru ada sorang hakim dr puak maori? do you get my point...

mat saleh ni kekadang bijak, diaorang allow 2/3 kerat yg berjaya dan bole tunjuk kt orang " see, we are fair to everybody". Bukannyer aku kata semua tertindas, hya untuk difikirkan....
