1. mark-up... how much do u marked-up from yr cost => profit/cost
bahaya dengan mark-up ni bila ko start bagi discount kena hati2
mark-up is a percentage of cost tapi discount is percentage of selling price
eg. cost $100, mark-up 50%=$50, selling price 100+50=$150
jual tak laku buat sale discount 40%=$150x40%=$60 => harga=$150-$60=$90 => RUGI!!!!
2. margin... how much u make from yr selling price => profit/selling price
eg. cost $100, margin 40% , selling price = $100/(100%-40%)= $166.67
buat sales 40%= 40%x$166.67=$66.67 => harga =$100-$66.67=$100 => breakeven
hati2 bila buat pricing and giving discount
especially bila org lain calculate price.. org lain yg bagi discount
kena streamline supaya tak rugi |

Lebih senang kalau kita berfikir in terms of margin ... supaya bila kita nego2 dengan customer .. kita tau berapa banyak boleh nego.. jgn sampai rugi pulak ...

1. u marked up 18.50-16.00=2.50 to yr cost equivalent to 2.50/16=15.63% mark-up to yr cost
but...
2. yr margin is only 2.50/18.50=13.51% of yr selling price
always remember you mark-up yr cost
but margin is how much u get from yr selling price...
u either decide how much u want to mark-up yr cost
or how much margin u want from yr price... pilih satu supaya tak konfius |

aku pon tak paham..
let say plak cam aku nie selalu amik sekali ganda dari kos..
cth kos baju rm5..aku jual rm 10..
adakah margin aku..5/10=50%??
then mark up aku hanyan 100% la kan
takleh la buat less 70% kan..hmm..camne pasaraya tu bole wat sales
sampai 70% ekk..margin die tinggi ker and barang die memang giler2 nyer murah.. |

banyak sebab mengapa pasaraya bleh bagi diskaun sampai 70%
mungkin retail expert bleh kupas lebih panjang lebar nnt
scenario mudah:
beli 100 biji @ $50 each => cost= $5000
margin 50% => selling price = $100
sold 80 @ 100 = $8000
sold 20 @ 70%discount= 20x100x(1-0.7)=$600
total return=$8600... still profitable sebab dorang jual in volume
after breakeven point the remaining quantity are all profit...
dlm contoh diatas breakeven point dia hanya 50 unit
lepas itu whatever price dorang jual are pure gross profit...
even 90% discount pun still profitable.
ada banyak sebab2 lain lagi tapi biarlah otai2 retail pulak cerita... |

hmm..ok..maknanya die rugi kat gula contohnya..tapi untung kat sabun basuh..ye tak?
bijak..bijak..well..ade tak anyone boleh share taktik2 promosi sebegini untuk peniaga kecil-kecilan..
seperti jual baju2..kain..mungkin kuih muih..dan ape2 aje yang melibatkan peruncitan.. |

aarie, i guess you need to kupas pasal breakeven, so they can see why setting target is very important! especially those yg ambik retail on consignment. kadang2 sebab tak buat the calculation la at the end ramai yg rugi dalam tak sedar... |

a.ah laa..itu la stategi yang sebenar kan..emm..let say jual tudung and kerongsang..or tudung and kain..wat satu margin kecik...then bio due2 laku..servis keta pon bole gak nie..
let say..tukar minyaak itam..minyak jual murah margin 25% oil filter 30%.. |

aku amik untung 30% dengan mark up harga kos..then aku rase cam ciput jer untung nyer...pasni aku nak kira pakai margin la plak..so my price will be more competitive kan.. |

kalau kira pakai margin senang nak correlate your selling price and profit
kalau margin 30% contohnya...senang nampak 30% dari harga tu is yr profit..
kalau markup 30%... correlation dengan harga jualan tu tak straight forward bleh nampak
dan kadang2 mengundang kesilapan...
harga dgn 30% margin definitely higher than 30% markup.. mmg lah lebih menguntungkan..
nak kata lebih competitive tu very subjective laa pulak.... |

in retail, we use upsell / cross sell strategy - kekadang customer beli main item cth selendang, which tak banyak margin, tapi bila kira buat cross sale (jual brooch) tu yg dapat dpt untung.
memang dlm retail byk sangat detail, the ROI, pricing startegy, storage, POS, promotion, ect ect ect.. |
