ABC has formally ordered the pilot the Matthew Perry comedy "Mr. Sunshine" in which
the former  " friends "   star confronts his looming middle age.   

    Mr Sunshine tells the story of a San Diego sports stadium manager who hits 40 and the realisation that he can't rely on his charm and humour.

  
" the  west wing "  director Thomas Schlamme will direct the pilot for Mr Sunshine.

Perry, who made his name on Friends with Jennifer Aniston, said: 'We’re trying to do a show that’s really, really funny and can slow down and play some heartfelt moments.

'All of this stuff originally came from watching a lot of Alan Partridge and the British The Office, and just wanting to go be funny again.'
