mcm mana nak ada pencalonan kalau setakat filem mcm hampeh! Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa yg overrated mcm tu je pun bleh mng Filem Terbaik FFM. So sad! Filem2 Malaysia masih jauh nk bersaing dgn International. Dulu trend filem hantu, pastu Gangster2 skrg ni Adaptasi Novel. pastu tajuk filem mengarut2, jalan cite pun mengarut! Dh susah nk cr karya2 hebat mcm Arwah Yasmin Ahmad. |

‘A Separation’ Triumphs at Asian Film Awards
The acclaimed Iranian film “A Separation” took top honors at the 6th Asian Film Awardsin Hong Kong on Monday night, continuing its run of wins at majorawards ceremonies. Last month it won the Academy Award for best-foreignlanguage film and in January took home a trophy in the same category atthe Golden Globes.
It was the first Asian film from a country outside East Asia to winbest film at the AFA. Previous winners came from South Korea, Japan andThailand. The win sends a strong signal that the awards intend to betruly pan-Asian, which is part of the AFA’s objective.
“A Separation,” a drama about a woman seeking a divorce from herhusband, won in three other categories: best director and bestscreenwriter for Asghar Farhadi, and best editor for Hayedeh Safiyari.
Leila Hatami, the film’s star, and Ms. Safiyari accepted thebest-film award on behalf of Mr. Farhadi, who wasn’t able to attend theceremony.
“As an Iranian … I am really glad that Iran has been mentioned allaround the world for its culture and its film, not sanctions andwar-like words,” Ms. Safiyari said, echoing Mr. Farhadi’s Oscaracceptance speech.
Best actress went to Hong Kong favorite Deanie Ip (葉德嫻) for hersentimental role as a servant who suffers a stroke and is cared for byher master in “A Simple Life” (桃姐). It’s Ms. Ip’s third majorbest-actress award for the film, following wins last year at the VeniceFilm Festival and the Golden Horse Awards (金馬獎) in Taiwan.
Donny Damara won best actor for his bittersweet portrayal of atransgender prostitute dealing with the unexpected arrival of histeenage daughter that he hasn’t seen in 15 years in Indonesia’s “LovelyMan.”
A trio of big-budget Chinese movies picked up another six of thenight’s 14 awards. The kung-fu drama “Wu Xia” (武俠) won in threecategories: cinematography, production design and composer; the 3-Dmartial-arts spectacle “Flying Swords of Dragon Gate” (龍門飛甲) won forvisual effects and costume design; and actress Ni Ni won best newcomerin “The Flowers of War” (金陵十三钗) playing opposite Christian Bale.
Special prizes went to “A Simple Life” director Ann Hui (許鞍華) forlifetime achievement, while the Edward Yang new talent award — namedafter the late Taiwanese director — was presented to the singularlynamed Indonesian director Edwin.
The Asian Film Awards were launched in 2007 and are organized by theHong Kong International Film Festival Society. A panel of 12 jurorsselected the awards in 14 categories.Singaporean director Eric Khoo served as president of this year’s jury. |
