file sharing

format device name harddisk master primary IDE => /dev/hdaX
format device name harddisk slave primary IDE => /dev/hdbX
format device name harddisk master secondary IDE => /dev/hdcX
format device name harddisk slave secondary IDE => /dev/hddX

biasanya X adalah nombor partition (1-4 sama ngan primary (dan extended kalau tak silap), 5-ZZZ utk logical drive)

ps: nanti i kasi screenshot xp disk manager dengan equivalent linux device name

utk boleh kan u baca partition tu, u kena activate partition tu dengan command mount. biasanya mount hanya boleh dibuat oleh root

cara cara utk mount
u kena ada folder target yang kosong sebelum mount

contohnya

/mnt/windowsC
/mnt/windowsD
/mnt/windowsE .. etc etc

skarang, utk mount partition 1 on master primary, dan letak kat mnt/windowsC, type

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/windowsC

lepas tu, kalau success, semua partition tu ada kat /mnt/windowsC (ie  /mnt/windowsC ==C:\ contohnya)

i pernah dengar yang redhat tak include ntfs file system supprort by default ...
kalau itu berlaku, maka u perlu reconfigure kernel utk support ntfs, vfat, fat32 dll, recompile dan install kerne baru ..

kalau rasa tak mampu dan tak kisah nak install linux lain, install mandrake 9.2 lah, semua dah built in ..

ok compare disk manager xp dengan device linux

windows disk manager

linux device
[root@mesenbasuh root]# fdisk /dev/hda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 9729.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,

1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs

since u pakai redhat

module utk ntfs loaded tak ?
atau dah built in dalam kernel ?
atau takde ntfs support ?

pakai command lsmod utk check  samada module ntfs loaded ke tak ...

sbb tu i cakap.. kalau tak salah, redhat tak buat ready made ntfs support .. kalau nak ntfs kena reconfigure and recompile kernel ...

guna mandrake ok je ..

try

mount  -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/winxp

mount -r -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/winxp

mount -o verbose -r -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/winxp

tengok samada ade error ke tidak

kalau kernel tak support NTFS, maka perlu install source code kernel .. peh tu configure

cara dia lebih kurang

cd /usr/src/linux
make xconfig (atau make menu config atau make config kalau takde xserver running)

then configre semua mak nenek yang ada kat situ .. utk redhat, kalau tak silap, utk first config, kena go through semua .. dari A sampai Z ... memang leceh ..

make bzImage
make module
make modules_install (tak ingat samada _ atau -)
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/bzImage /boot/test-kernel_nombor_x

peh tu install test-kernel dalam lilo.conf
dalam lilo.conf (copy part yang dah siap ade utk linux.. jangan delete plak ..) and tukar part

image=/boot/test-kernel_nombor_x
label=testkernel

yang lain sama je ngan yang linux tu ..

then save

kat console .. type lilo
akan keluar
adding *windows
adding *linux
adding testkernel
done

peh tu kalau takde problem ngan lilo.. reboot dan masa lilo suruh pilih os, pilih lah test kernel .. kalau tak oupps ..dan semua berjalan lancar .. u terror ler ..

kalau tak berjalan lancar, reboot masuk linux yang biasa and configure sampai betul ...

dari experience, utk newbie atau yang first time configure kernel baru ... memang kena retry beribu ribu kali ... kalau tak confiden sangat, minta tolong org buatkan ler utk first time tu ..

masa i first time install redhat 7.2 /8.0.. i configure kernel tapi asyik tak lengkap sampai i fed up install mandrake balik kernel panic toksah citer laa

lupa nak precise

baca INSTALL, READMI, CONFIG dll yang ada dalam directory /usr/src/linux tu

and kena install kernel source dulu
