Translation of my previous post made in M&M.

ok, I have something to dispute from this video.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6323427897709690102
(I am not trying to challenge or deny all facts brought up in the video, just this one.)

The following is the screen capture from the video at 4:07

Wind speed, V=140mph
Cross sectional area,  A = 208ft X 1360ft
Force, F=11,000,000 lbf

To calculate the force, this is the appropriate formula
F= C_d * 1/2 * rho * V^2 * A

where C_d is the drag coefficient, which depends on the geometry,
and rho is the density of the fluid, in this case, air.

I intend to check the density of air, to see if it makes sense.

Let's see what's the approximate C_d of the building. Since this is a two-dimensional problem, we can use the following table

So, the shape of the building can be approximated as a square cylinder. But we're not very sure the wind's angle of attack, the picture does not tell much. But from the given frontal area, it is more likely that the orientation of the wind is similar to the top diagram. So, we take
C_d=2.1

Since we're more familiar with Celsius scale (and since english units is confusing), we convert everything to SI.

A= 282880ft^2 = 26280m^2
F= 11,000,000lbf = 48930438N
V=140mph = 62.59m/s

Ok, the formula I gave above,
F= C_d * 1/2 * rho * V^2 * A
can be rearranged to obtain rho like the following

rho = F / (C_d * 1/2 * V^2 * A).

Now let's calculate rho,

rho = 48930438 / (2.1 * 1/2 * 62.59^2 * 26280)
rho=0.4526kg/m^3

:hmm:

check this table.

Does it make sense that the modern day temperature of New York ever reach or exceed 400-500 deg Celsius? Quite impossible huh?

Please bring up any question or suggestion, nicely. Thanks.

Pentagon Puzzle

Check this out....and it is not about Islam and Christians or about any religion...let's discuss the rationale behind this documentary.....if it is real. Go to this website and watch this film.........do it quickly as it has  already been pulled off several web sites already!........afterwards you'll see why!
