PC cannot detect new internal HDD

hi forumers/mods...

i hv a problem
baru beli internal hdd
160GB brand western digital 7200 rpm SATA2 type
dah pasang pun kat PC

but d problem is my PC cannot detect langsung the HDD
tanye gak diorang tempat beli dia cakap mungkin motherboard x support?
and try letak jumper?

setau sy no jumper required for SATA2? try 3 kali... jumper still x detect?

dah tengok kat BIOS? tengok kat BIOS and see samada kat BIOS tu ada option untuk SATA drive. kalau ada, enable it. kalau tak de, memang tak support. in this case, beli adapter SATA2 to IDE (i believe you're using IDE currently). kalau tak, tengok kat manual untuk SATA2 tu macamana nak adjust jumper (WD ni biasanya kat HD tu sendiri ada info pasal jumper ni). kalau tak, try get more info from WD website.

aku stuju dgn oobi. cek kat BIOS.
tapi kalo mainbod mmg support, pastikan SATA disk tu jadi secondary atau slave.
sebab kalu nk jadikan primary utk boot/install software kena install RAID/SATA dulu masa sblom install OS tu.

ok... latest story.. tukar kat kedai pakai ide je...
diorang cakap yo yo oo je boleh detect tp bile wa bawak cpu... they also hv no idea nape x leh detect
motherboard wa dia cakap support sata 1 2

kalau macam tu, kalau guy dah try semua and BIOS still tak boleh detect hard drive tu, ni ajer yang oobi boleh fikirkan:

1. the hard drive itself is bad to begin with (don't be so surprised, happen all the time).
2. sata cable is bad.
3. sata port is bad (can't do anything for this one)
4. may be you have to upgrade the BIOS (check mobo manufacturer site for this).

kalau semua tak boleh, beli casing luar jadikan external..
Casing tu dlm 100 + kot...connect guna USB..
Tp, sebelum beli test dulu kat kedai...

dis is new to me... thanx oobi for d info. lesson learned - i hv to b more careful b4 buying especially new hdd.

guy, may be, may be not. kalau you boleh guna komputer you, only part of the mobo yang tak berfungsi. have you ever used usb port before? or does it ever work? kalau tak pernah, cuba check BIOS and make sure usb port is enable. kalau tak, and you want to use usb port, then you may need to replace the whole mobo, if you're using laptop. kalau gunakan desktop, you boleh beli usb extension card aje (pci card).

Back to 1st question.

just for thought : if the HDD was detected by BIOS but did not appear in windoze, u may need to enable big LBA support in windoze

p/s: no flaming

b4 i hantar to kedai pc, all 5 out of 6 usb ports bole pakai.. cuma kadang2 dia bole detect kadang2 x...
nak enable kan usb kena (manually) set kat bios ke? bukan by default ke die will detect?

my query nape dulu bole skarang x boleh?

kalau dulu boleh guna, usb function tu dah enable kat BIOS. so, tak perlu buat apa-apa lagi. oobi boleh fikir 2 perkara aje kalau sekarang sekejap boleh guna, sekejap tak boleh:

1. usb port tu mungkin dah loose. or its electrical component ada masalah. yang ni tak boleh nak buat apa-apa. maksudnya usb port dah nak selamat.
2. mungkin drivers for whatever devices you want to connect to usb port tak de, especially kalau you jarang run windows update. tapi, kalau guy guna wxp, it should be plug n play.

tapi, oobi rasa it's probably #1. even for new pc, it happens. kalau still under warranty, boleh call manufacturer pc tu and minta dia orang run diagnostic. kalau perlu replace, dia orang akan replace, even if it means replacing the whole mobo. kalau still under warranty, jangan hantar kedai sebab adakalanya it will void the warranty, unless kedai tu authorize by your pc manufacturer to work on your pc (which means you should get the same support as if you're being supported by the manufacturer).

kalau you build the pc yourself, check with manufacturer of your mobo.

kalau hdd tak detect, USB failure, most probably memang mainbod dah hampir kaput.
processor apa ko guna? kalo seken hand rata2 aku jumpa RM120-RM160 je mainbod mana jenis pun.
kecuali mainbod yg branded lah.

sbb kalao send  repair pun, teknician pun was2 gak nak repair sbb kos dia hampir cecah harga mainbod seken hand.

768ddr ram.

so most probably usb port dah selamat lah ye? strange.. sbb baru beli last year feb.

kalo tukar canggih manggih cam duo processor sah2 kena tukar casing lagi ekk? ram mesti dah paka ddr2 nie kot

yep, konpem RAM kena tukar ddr2 kalo upgrade ke dual processor. kalo amd tu soket 754 kot. harga dalam RM150 bukan seken hand (paling murah) . . . maintain ddr1 dan boleh pilih samada nak guna slot grafik AGP atau PCI-e.
