Yasmin Ahmad’s Talentime is re-screened in honour of her contributions to the local film industry. DENNIS CHUA writes.
THE late Yasmin Ahmad’s last cinematic effort, Talentime, is set to hit cinemas again today.
Primeworks Studios and a group of cinema companies are re-screening the film as a tribute to the award-winning film-maker whose films best encapsulate the spirit of 1Malaysia.
The screening will be held in various cinemas around the country, and Primeworks and the cinema operators have pledged to donate RM1 for every movie ticket sold.

They are hoping to give fans who missed the film an opportunity to catch it and do their part to help society and the less fortunate.
Media Prima Berhad group chief executive officer for Television Networks Datuk Seri Farid Ridzuan said: “Yasmin was an icon of our film industry who will be sorely missed, and this is our way of honouring her memory and allowing viewers to enjoy her work on the big screen.
Talentime, which was released nationwide earlier this year, follows a group of students and teachers as they prepare for a talent contest in a school.
Through the course of rehearsals and preparations, tragedy and emotions blend together and raise questions of faith, race, love and life.
The film will be screened in the following cinemas:
l GSC Mid Valley Megamall (Kuala Lumpur), Queensbay Mall (Bayan Baru, Penang), Sunway Carnival (Prai), Dataran Pahlawan (Malacca) and Alamanda (Putrajaya);
l TGV KLCC (Kuala Lumpur), Bukit Tinggi (Klang), Bukit Raja (Klang), Tebrau City (Johor Baru), Cheras Selatan (Kuala Lumpur) and 1Utama (Petaling Jaya);
l MBO Ampang, Batu Pahat Mall, Kluang and Skudai;
l Independent cinemas Growball (Kota Kinabalu), The Mall (Bandar Seri Begawan), Lotus 5 Star (Taiping), Teruntum (Kuantan) and Riverside (Kuching).
