Typhoon Neoguri

On April 11, area of convection with an area of low pressure was located between Palau and Yap.
Early on April 13, a low-level circulation developed near Mindanao. The low continued to get
better organized and early on April 14, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center began issuing
advisories on Tropical Depression 02W, which was located about north of Zamboanga City,
Philippines. Later that day, the agency upgraded it to tropical storm status, based on satellite
intensity estimates.

As of 0000 UTC April 16, the JMA reports Severe Tropical Storm Neoguri to be located near 13.1癗 113.0癊.
The system has maximum 10-minute average winds of 50 kt (95 km/h, 60 mph). It has a minimum pressure of 985 hPa,
and is moving northwest at 12 kt (22 km/h, 14 mph).

As of 1800 UTC, the JTWC reports Tropical Storm 02W (Neoguri) to be located about 305 nm (565 km, 350 mi)
east of Nha Trang, Vietnam, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds of 45 kt (85 km/h, 50 mph). The system
has a maximum associated wave height of 16 ft (4.9 m).

14.9癗 112.3癊. The system has maximum 10-minute average winds of 70 kt
(130 km/h, 80 mph). It has a minimum pressure of 965 hPa, and is moving
north at 10 kt (20 km/h, 12 mph).

As of 1800 UTC, the JTWC reports Typhoon 02W (Neoguri) to be located about 295 nm
(545 km, 340 mi) southeast of Hainan, China, with maximum 1-minute sustained winds
of 75 kt (140 km/h, 85 mph). The system has a maximum associated wave height of
22 ft (6.7 m).

A Category 1 hurricane, Typhoon Neoguri, is churning through theSouth China Sea on its

way toward landfall in China, or possiblyVietnam, according to data from the Joint Typhoon

Warning Center.Still hundreds of miles south-southeast of Hainan, China, TyphoonNeoguri

reached hurricane strength in recent hours, and now packssustained winds of 75 mph.
It is forecast to become a weak Category 2 storm, with sustainedwind speeds of up to 97 mph,

before weakening slightly before landfall.
