TITANIC star Kate Winslet fled Sir Richard Branson's Caribbean home yesterday as it was engulfed by flames.
Kate, 35, helped carry the tycoon's 90-year-old mum to safety after lightning hit the mansion on his £90million island Necker.
The actress scooped up frail Eve after lightning set the mansion ablaze.Branson, who was staying in a villa nearby, yesterday likened Kate's dramatic rescue to a scene from one of her Hollywood blockbusters. He said: "Many thanks to Kate Winslet. It was she who carried my mother out of the house. She swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as fast as possible. "My mum is 90 and can walk but it was more to speed the process up than anything else. But Kate was great."

SIR Richard Branson told yesterday how he ran naked into a cactus bush as he raced towards his blazing Caribbean mansion.

The Virgin boss, 61, and son Sam were sleeping in a villa near the Great House when the alarm was raised.
He said: "We were about 100 yards away from the Great House.

"I heard banging on my window, looked across and there were 200ft flames. We just ran stark naked towards the house and I went straight into a cactus bush. My son ran on. Fortunately people had woken up inside."

The 20 guests staying in the Great House all escaped unharmed from Monday's blaze, which began when the mansion was struck by lightning.

They included actress Kate Winslet, who carried Branson's 90-year-old mum Eve to safety.

The tycoon said his close encounter with the cactus cheered up his dejected family and friends as they stood wrapped in blankets watching the flames destroy his home.

He said: "There were lots of giggles, not least when I tried to get some sympathy for the fact that I'd jumped out of bed naked in pitch darkness and hurricane force winds and ran straight in to a cactus bush. Sympathy was not forthcoming for my injuries! Fortunately, the most important parts were OK. "
