THE Japanese Film Festival 2013 is returning this month.
Organised by the Japan Foundation with the support of Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), this year's festival will showcase nine films that will be screened over six days in the Klang Valley, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
All films are in Japanese with English subtitles.
This 10th year of the festival will see the premiere of a brand-new film, Ken and Mary, which was filmed in Malaysia in 2011.
It opens on Sept 12 in selected GSC cinemas in the Klang Valley.
The film will have its world premiere in Japan in November.
Ken and Mary is directed by Fukasaku Kenta and stars Takeaka Naoto, Hu Bing and Kitano Kii.
It tells the story of a Japanese father who comes all the way to Malaysia to break off the engagement of his daughter.
Stranded in an airport during a storm, he is forced to seek help from a Chinese man who speaks dodgy Japanese.
The film features Malaysia's Zizan Raja Lawak, who acts as a colleague of the Japanese man's daughter.
Other movies featured in the festival line-up are The Great Passage and Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea (2013); Dearest, Until the Break of Dawn and The Kirishima Thing (2012); Ogawa no Hotori [At River's Edge] (2011); The Chef of South Polar and Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror (2009).
Tickets for the festival are priced at RM6 each except for Detective Conan : Private Eye in the Distant Sea, which will be sold at prevailing ticket prices.
