.......The Paris-based anti-racism advocacy group SOS-Racism issued a statement Monday quoting "several very well informed sources from the world of football" as saying Materazzi called Zidane a "dirty terrorist." It demanded that FIFA, soccer's world governing body, investigate and take any appropriate action.......

dirty terrorist?

I think Materazzi provoked him with such remark commonly used by anti-Islam.

There was no pride in doing so, generalize Muslim as terrorist is just a desperate attempt to raise Zidane anger and make him leave the field.

If its true then nicely done Zidane, I'm not suporting violence or something, but that bad attitude and bad religious remark of Materazzi deserve head-butted from a Zidane.

strange...

"It is absolutely not true, I didn't call him a terrorist, I don't know anything about that," the Italian news agency ANSA quoted Materazzi as saying when he arrived with his team at an Italian military airfield.

"What happened is what all the world saw live on TV," the Italian player said, referring to the head-butting.

Zidane's agent, Alain Migliaccio, was quoted by the BBC as saying the France captain told him the Italian "said something very serious to him, but he wouldn't tell me what."

both zidane and materazzi never told about what they said on the pitch, where did this groupcame up wth such claim...

We will hear from Zidane himself nextweek.

Btw Bob, when you mentioned lip-read, read this below:

Brazilian tv-station "globo" is said to have engaged a lip-reading expert and said that materazzi has called zidanes sister a prostitute, this morning german radio said quoting a french source that he called zidanes mother a whore and other papers said he personally insulted zidane as a damn muslim and dirty terrorist. another source commented that he might have said all the insults together.

As for zidane, he did a head/chestbutt and was punished even though none of the referees could have seen it (this is clearly visible from tv pictures). it is said that a fourth fifa official had watched the slow motion on tv. according to fifa rules the video proof is only allowed after the match (see for instance the frings case of the germany - argentina match). thus the red card for zidane during the match was not justified. fifa rules also say that insults against the ref's or players are to be punished with a red card as well. as no referee had heard what materazzi said he might as well be punished after the match. however, zidanes headbutt could be a change of heart of the fifa to allow the video proof in football during a game (provided they engage a lip-reader as well  - if they dont then its just hypocritical).

If Materazzi did say what was leaked, then Zidane did the right thing, risking his reputation in the name of faith. That takes guts to do it in front of the world

errr not sure i agree with that. this is all trash talk... i mean this is kinda normal occurence is sport... your opponent trash talk you to demoralize you... as a captain, i expected zizou to be more in control of his anger... because materazzi just talk nonsense.. if he said zidane is a terrorist, well zidane is not a terrorist.

still, i hope that zizou has not reacted the way he reacted. if he did not give materazzi a head-butt, surely now the world cup resided in france... when he's out, he demoralized the whole team... tsk...

fault play= red card

I think the phrase you're looking for  is 'foul play'. You don't even speak the language of sports

foul play is worst for yellow card only,

simply foul for spot kick.

you're playing in a professional stage, not in the wet market or anything. there's a boundary of what you can say and what you can't. plus what materazzi said is clearly humiliating. he should have kept his comments to himself, else this wouldn't have happened. it's easy to say to say things like "put the country above yourself and don't behave such way" but put yourself in zidane's shoe, would you be able to stand it?

still crying foul???

You  don't see this, do you?

The England with a RED Cross on its flag had defended the World Cup with a slow build up starting with the Head of God's goal in Paraquay by king Beckham's dead ball.  Finally with a ten men after Rooney with a RED card over the uncontrollable foot falling on the Portugese player, England defended so well and played till the Penalties kicks.

France started well and even beat Brazil because of Zidane who had a call at 3 a.m. to convince him to rejoin the World Cup.   Zidane answered that call and finally his glorious moments were rewarded with a RED card after the Head of Allah hitting on Marco M of Italy who had earlier level the score.  Was Zidane so angry with header from a defender to spoil his GOLDEN cup?  Definitely, he wanted a final glory in his last World Cup game.  Now it is history with a RED card for a Muslim hero (player of the match).  Maybe this RED card would make him not retire so soon to redeem himself for his age.  Would he hear another voice from somewhere to keep up his Islamic prowess?

If Maradona called that 1986's as "Hand of God", then the Head of God's own goal in Paraquay, (both involving England), now what to call this "Head of Allah" or rather "Head of Satan" when it is followed by a RED (angry) card.

A world up scene ended with a red bull dance now some people in traxx.fm radio called that "zidane you"?  Nobody can forget that, hence better than the golden trophy.

Going by this title, are Muslims defeated?   Don't be angry with me, please.

Football is a game and the mistake that some of us make is by associating football with religion? France is not a muslim team....just because it consist of 2 or 3 muslims does not make it a muslim team and in football all is fair. The ball is round. And Zizou is not the Head of God or the Head of Satan.

Muslims does not associate a human being to be God. if Maradona goal was considered the Hands of God....by all means be it but not Zizou.

What he did was a reaction to the name calling by the italians.....even though I may not agree with his cause of action....it was his decision and he suffered the consequences.....so please do not associate all this to religion....because if you do....I can say that most Italians are not Christians......90 percent are Roman catholics while the others consist of christians, jews etc.

And we know about the RC right?

..then, Christians succeeded? What a joke... That was not a Crusade... at least Zidane has created a great football history and brings lights to World Cup finals which has been so dull since Christian's Maradona's 'hand of God' against Christian England... should we mention Christian like that? Or for mixed teams differently? Zidane a Muslim is hailed as France's hero... French didn't discriminate him as a Muslim... that's how sports should be, bring unity among races, religions etc...
