Trouble ahead for Fairuz-Zakry, easier passage for Koo-Tan
PETALING JAYA: Doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, the third seeds, should not have much problem booking a place in the semi-finals but their compatriots, Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Latif, will have trouble living up to their fourth seed tag.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong have a good chance to regain the All-England title they last won two years ago as they should make it to the last four if they can play the way they did en route to winning the Super Series Masters Finals in Kota Kinabalu in December.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong are in the bottom half and their biggest test should come in the quarter-finals, as they are likely to play Denmark抯 Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen.
However, Kien Keat-Boon Heong will probably have to overcome a tricky second round challenge from Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen, who are also their sparring partners in the national squad.
If Kien Keat-Boon Heong make it to the semi-finals, they should play either Chinese hopefuls Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun or top Danes Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen.
The Malaysians have beaten both pairs before.
It is tougher for Fairuzizuan-Zakry in their first tournament of the year as they have Olympic champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia and Lee Yong-dae-Shi Baek-choel for company in the top half of the draw.
The second ranked national pair did not feature in the Malaysian and Korean Opens last month after Zakry suffered a knee injury.
Fairuzizuan-Zakry抯 first round opponents are Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki-Rian Sukmawan of Indonesia
and they will then have to contend with Danes Simon Mollyhus-Anders Kristiansen for a place in the last eight.
Malaysia抯 top women抯 doubles pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty will start as the second seeds but it will be tough to live up to their billing as they have two Chinese pairs in their path.
Eei Hui-Pei Tty face possible challenges from seventh seed Zhang Yawen-Zhao Tingting in the quarter-finals and Olympic champions Du Jing-Yu Yang in the semi-finals. |

KUALA LUMPUR: Inai masih merah di tiga jari kiri, namun takdir menentukan jodoh jaguh badminton negara, Roslin Hashim, 34, dengan Faizah Mohamad, 32, tidak panjang.
Pasangan pengantin baru itu yang bernikah pada 30 Januari lalu cuma sempat melayari bahtera rumah tangga selama 12 hari apabila mereka bercerai pada 11 Februari lalu.
Berat mata memandang, berat lagi bahu memikul. Begitulah yang dirasai Roslin kerana perceraian itu terjadi ketika dia sedang bersiap-siap menghadapi kejohanan badminton Terbuka India pada bulan depan, apatah lagi kedua-duanya belum sempat menikmati detik manis berbulan madu.
Ketika ditemui, Roslin berkata dia melafazkan cerai pada isterinya atas kerelaan sendiri di rumah ibu bapa mentuanya di Puchong, Selangor, sekitar jam 10.50 malam di hadapan mereka.
揟iada sesiapa memaksa saya melafazkan cerai. Cuma sebelum lafaz itu keluar dari mulut saya, ayah mentua minta saya fikir dulu kerana mereka tidak nampak kami bersengketa, tapi saya yang hidup bersama anaknya lebih memahami mengapa saya membuat keputusan itu.
