FILMMAKER Karan Johar revealed that his biggest wish was to make his actors kiss on screen.
In London last week to talk films at the Nehru Centre, the man behind box-office hits such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham spoke of his frustrations about age-old sensibilities in Bollywood that effectively ban on-screen kisses.
He said: "We suffer from a 'married-man' syndrome, as most actors are married and have jealous wives. So we have to make do with a silly hug while the scene requires a passionate kiss."
Johar (pictured) also went on to expose further myths about the Indian film industry.
"The idea that we are all one big happy family, where everyone respects each other, is a complete myth. There is no such old-world feeling of fraternity, everyone pretty much hates each other and wants each other's films to fail. All we do is pretend to get on."
The writer-director is currently working on his next big project, My Name is Khan. It stars his favourite actor, ShahRukh Khan, in the lead role and is set against the backdrop of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.
"Filmmaking is the closest one can get to playing God, creating your own world and characters.
"My next film is an attempt at tackling a subject I feel very strongly about. The perception of Islam and Muslims needs our attention. My Name is Khan is one man's journey to meet the president of the United States and tell him he is not a terrorist just because his name is Khan," Johar said.
Johar added another successful string to his bow hosting popular TV show Koffee with Karan.
