Maria Sharapova Beats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal To 15 Million Facebook Fans Milestone
Tennis - Maria Sharapova has become the first tennis player to reach the milestone of 15 million fans on the social networking site Facebook, beating Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to the milestone.
The Russian, who has been the highest earning female athlete in all sports for the last ten successive years, achieved the milestone on Friday while Federer was at 14.7 million and Nadal at 14.8 million fans. Sharapova is one of the most popular faces across the world, with her wide range of business endorsements and her new candy company Sugarpova.
She ended the 2014 season, in which she won her fifth Grand Slam title at the French Open in June, as the World's No. 2 ranked player. Meanwhile, World No. 4 Simona Halep crossed the 1 million fan milestone earlier this week. The Romanian, who split with her coach this week, is only the eighth female tennis player to do that after Sharapova, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Sania Mirza, Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka. |

Serving up hints? Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov put split rumours behind them as she rocks huge gem on ring finger
It was recently claimed that Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov had called time on their romance.
Putting an end to the rumours, the athletic couple looked happier than ever as they stepped out in London on Sunday afternoon.
Making their way through Dover Street Market hand in hand, the pair were all smiles as Sharapova, 27, sported a massive piece of jewellery on her ring finger.
It's not the first time Maria has been pictured wearing jewels on the finger which is usually reserved for love tokens such as an engagement ring or wedding band, as she did the same thing last year but the images were not followed by news of a coming wedding.
Dressed casual for the trip, Maria wore her blonde hair down in a side parting while showing off her make-up free complexion.
Rocking a pair of on trend leather trousers, the Russian champion teamed the bottoms with a knitted jumper, navy cardigan, Chelsea boots and an animal print handbag.
Meanwhile Grigor wrapped a printed blanket scarf around his neck as he donned a wore grey jumper with a burgundy top, khaki chinos and black boots.
He topped his look with a light zip detailed jacket while clutching carrier bags in one hand.
Taking in the sites during the shopping trip, the 23-year-old took to Twitter to share an image of himself posing alongside some street art.
The caption that accompanied the picture read: 'So much to discover and some of the finest street art work at the Sunday Up Market! #London'
Maria and Grigor began dating in 2012 and have been inseparable, with Maria often cheering Dimitrov on courtside.
In a Q&A last month for ATP Insider, the Bulgarian star revealed that he likes to spoil his other half as he is a romantic person.
However it seems as Sharapova, who has a penchant for sweet things, will have to keep her confectionery treats away from her beau as he also told he has to be careful what he eats.
Grigor said: 'I’ve got to be careful what I’m eating, but sometimes I just let myself go and there’s no way back'.
No broken hearts here! Tennis aces Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov put split rumours behind them as they enjoyed a shopping trip in London's Dover Street Market on Sunday
Hand in hand: The pair coordinated their khaki ensembles as they put on an affectionate display

Murray, Federer in same group at ATP World Tour Finals
Monday, November 03, 2014 /by AP
LONDON (AP) -- Two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic has been handed a favorable draw at the ATP World Tour Finals, while Roger Federer and Andy Murray will meet in the round-robin phase.
The top-seeded Djokovic, who won his 20th Masters title in Paris on Sunday, was placed in the same group with Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka, U.S. Open winner Marin Cilic and Tomas Berdych for the season-ending, eight-man tournament, which starts Sunday in London.
''Two successive titles in London in the last two years gave me reason to believe that I can do well,'' said Djokovic after winning in Paris, where he did not drop a set during the whole week.
The in-form Federer, meanwhile, is in Group B along with Murray and newcomers Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic.
Djokovic as a combined career record of 41-5 against his group while Federer leads his round-robin opponents 19-14.
Djokovic, this year's Wimbledon champion, is unbeaten on indoors courts the past two years and is vying with Federer for the year-end No. 1 ranking. The Serb extended his lead over the 17-time Grand Slam champion to 1,310 points as he bids to finish the year on top for the third time.
''It helps that I'm playing well, and that I'm feeling good about myself on the court playing indoors,'' Djokovic said. ''Every match that I play, every match that I play and win, gets me closer to holding No. 1 the end of the year.''
Federer's quarterfinals loss in Paris against Raonic has hampered his bid to overtake Djokovic in London, where a potential 1,500 points are up for grabs.
Rafael Nadal is skipping the tournament after undergoing appendix surgery on Monday.
Cilic, Raonic and Nishiroki are newcomers at the elite tournament while Berdych is competing for the fifth straight year. |
