A spokeswoman from Paris prosecutor’s office, Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre, told the AP that the flight containing the plane debris may leave Réunion on Friday and arrive in Toulouse on Saturday. The debris is at the Réunion airport and under French judicial authority, according to French officials.
Because Réunion is a French territory, the country is leading the investigation of the debris and cooperating with international officials. France has been actively involved in the investigation into the missing plane because four of its citizens were among the 239 people onboard. |

[img=400,400]A map drawn up by oceanographers one year ago actually predicated debris from MH370 would wash up on Reunion Island. Shortly after the Malaysia Airlines flight disappeared on March 8 last year, oceanographers from the University of Western Australia (UWA) drew up a map of possible drift patterns. The blue area on the map represented where debris could be found within six months of the disappearance of the flight, while the green area showed drift patterns between six and 12 months. The pink and red areas meanwhile, showed key areas where debris might be found more than a year after the disappearance. Today the UWA said the discovery of the wing part and damaged suitcase was ‘entirely consistent’ with their graphic.
Charitha Pattiaratchi, an oceanographer at UWA who was part of the team that looked at surface currants in the region, said it was now ‘very likely’ more debris would be found if the wreckage was that of MH370. He said:
It is entirely consistent with the area that the search team is looking at – it’s entirely consistent in terms of oceanography, in terms of the modelling.
It’s hard to guage, but it’ll be no surprise if even more debris washes up in this region. It may not necessarily be exactly here but in the Madagascar region,’ he said. ‘It’s more likely to be in this area after this debris was found.
The plane debris is everything that can float, so anything could show up next. But it could still take weeks or months for this to happen.
The wing ‘flaperon’ discovered on Reunion Island has been confirmed as that of a Boeing 777 by aviation experts, who have flown out to the island to investigate whether it could belong to MH370.
