Bodybuilding Dropped From 2010 Asian Games
By Jaiarajo Letchumanan

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) -- Bodybuilding has been dropped from the 16th Asian Games to be hosted by Guangzhou City, China in 2010 from Nov 12 to Nov 27.

Bodybuilding, which was included in the Doha Asian Games, was missing from the 41 sports endorsed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during the 26th OCA General Assembly held in Kuwait City on April 16-17.

The 41 sports approved for the Games programme to be held in a Chinese city for the second time since the inception of the Games, included 28 Olympic sports and 13 recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

Beijing hosted the 11th edition in 1990.

Bodybuilding was drawn into much controversy during the Doha Games when questions of judging were raised by a number of countries including Malaysia after Sazali Samad, winner of the bantamweight "Mr Universe" title at the World Bodybuilding championships in the Czech Republic a month before the Asian Games was awarded second place.

Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said the host nation did not include bodybuilding among the non-Olympic sports in the list that was put forward for OCA approval.

"Though bodybuilding was not included, we are happy that tenpin bowling, sepaktakraw, squash and wushu where Malaysia has a good chance of winning medals, has been included," Kok Chi told Bernama when contacted today.

The 28 Olympic sports included are: Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing & Kayaking, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Softball, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling.

The 13 OCA recognised sports are: Tenpin Bowling, Cue Sports, Dance Sports, Dragon Boat, Golf, Kabaddi, Karate, Chess, Rugby, Sepaktakraw, Squash, Wushu, Cricket.

Comeback Season

Representing My Kingdom
As Malaysia's #1 heavyweight bodybuilder, Syed Fazli has all the glory a new MM Pro could want including acclaimed media attention, a premiere job at one of Kuala Lumpur's renowned fitness centers, traveling throughout the world at Musclemania shows and more.  But, most important to the 5'8", 195 lbs. natural star is being a role model to his country's bodybuilders and representing the Malay kingdom.   "I want Malays to know that you can build your body without drugs and be happy with the results," says Fazli.  "I come from a small village and never wanted to be famous - just to succeed with my training and represent my country around the world.  That is fulfilling enough for me."  At the Musclemania World Championships in
Hollywood, Fazli was a Top 5 Finalist and a MM Pro for the first time.  "I went home feeling like a hero, but am happy just to be a role model for Malaysian bodybuilders."   Fazli will be a guest performer at the '06 MM Asia in Singapore and other events.
