Kuriyama Chiaki to release her first single in a year and 5 months
It’s been revealed that actress/singer Kuriyama Chiaki will be releasing her first single in a year and 5 months, “Toyosu☆Luciferin“, on April 24th.
Kuriyama’s 6th single since her singing debut in February of 2010 was written by former Midori vocalist Goto Mariko and composed, arranged, and produced by 9mm Parabellum Bullet guitarist Taki Yoshimitsu. The song is said to have a beautiful melody, heavy-metal sound, and lyrics full of fantasy.
For its coupling track, the single will include a rock number called “Hodokenai, Bokura wa Zettai.“, which is also composed, arranged, and produced by Taki. It will also include a song that was produced by 9mm Parabellum Bullet, “Roulette de Kuchizuke wo“, which was featured in Kuriyama’s first album, “CIRCUS“, released back in March of 2011.

BiS to hold new member auditions
In response to Wakisaka Yurika’s withdrawal, idol group BiS has announced that they will be holding an audition for a new member.
The group is recruiting a woman from ages 17 to 24, and experience is not required. However, it has to be someone who is currently not signed with a record company or production. The audition will take place on April 14th and 21st from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Avex Headquarters. As long as the application requirements are met, all applicants will be able to get an interview within the set times.
During last year’s new member audition, no applicants showed up for an hour and a half after the interview started.

Details on miwa’s new single revealed
The details on miwa’s new single has been revealed!
miwa’s 11th single will be titled “Miracle” and it will be released on April 24. Aside the title track, it will include 2 songs, “Smile” and “Colorful ~MY STYLE ver.~“. “Smile” is a collaboration song with the French picture book series, ‘Penelope‘. miwa wrote this song just for the series, and the music video will feature a baby koala doll as Penelope.
The single will come with a DVD which features footage from miwa’s concert at Shimokitazawa LOFT before her debut and from her debut live at shibuya eggman.

Ninety-nine’s Yabe Hiroyuki and freelance announcer Aoki Yuko register their marriage
On March 27, Ninety-nine’s Yabe Hiroyuki and freelance announcer Aoki Yuko announced through their agencies that they have registered their marriage.
Yabe commented, “As embarrassing as it is, I stayed single until this age with an unsteady mind, but I was very attracted to her who is straight and honest. Thanks to her, I feel as if my heart is being purified every day. From here on, I will continue making my best effort, so please support both of us.” Yabe also didn’t forget to show his concern for his partner, Okamura Takashi, “Ah, Okamura-san, pardon me for marrying before you…”
Aoki also released a comment, “During this past three years, I’ve been relieved by his kind heart and dependability many times. To stay with a consistent person like him, I am able to feel at ease from the bottom of my heart. From now on, I would like to build a warm family full of smiles, so that he can concentrate on his work.”
The couple first met through a variety show in 2005, and they finally tied the knot after dating for three years. According to their agencies, nothing definite has been decided regarding on the wedding ceremony and reception party, but they are planning to hold a wedding ceremony only with their relatives. Aoki is not pregnant.

Cast members playing “CRUDE PLAY” in upcoming “Kano-Uso” movie revealed
As reported earlier, Aoki Kotomi’s popular manga “Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru” is getting a live-action movie adaptation starring Sato Takeru, and recently, cast members who will play the members of “CRUDE PLAY“, the band within the story, have been revealed.
“Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru” is a love story between a genius music creator named “Ogasawara Aki” (played by Sato) and a regular high school girl named “Koeda Riko” (played by Ohara Sakurako). In the story, “CRUDE PLAY” is described as a popular 4-member male band. All the members are good looking, and they always top the charts, and sell out tickets for their live concert at Tokyo Dome in 2 minutes.
The members of “CRUDE PLAY” will be played by Miura Shohei (as the vocalist & guitarist “Sakaguchi Shun”), Kubota Masataka (as the bassist “Shinohara Shinya”), Mizuta Kouki (as the guitarist “Ohno Kaoru”), and Asaka Kodai (as the drummer “Yazaki Teppei”).
Reportedly, these four will show their actual performance in the movie, and “CRUDE PLAY”s songs will be produced by Kameda Seiji who was a member of Tokyo Jihen, and is also serving as the music producer for the movie.
Miura showed his ambition saying, “We would like to aim for CD debut, an appearance on Kohaku Uta Gassen, and even advancing overseas as CRUDE PLAY.”
Live-action movie “Kanojo wa Uso wo Aishisugiteru” is scheduled to be released in December of this year.

Studio Ghibli’s newest animated feature gets official release date

TOKYO —
It’s official: Studio Ghibli’s “Kazu Tachinu” or “The Wind is Rising”, will be released in Japanese cinemas from July 20 this year.
Announced last December together with “Kaguya Hime no Monogatari,” this will be the first feature film that Hayao Miyazaki has both written and directed since 2008′s “Ponyo.”
The story is believed to be loosely based on one of Miyazaki’s own manga series, which in turn derived from a work by Japanese author Tatsuo Hori. “Kaze Tachinu” was originally intended to be joined by slightly darker tale “Kaguya Hime no Monogatari” for a simultaneous release, but that feature has sadly slipped back until autumn this year.
There has been no word yet regarding of the Western release dates for either film, but we’ll be sure to keep all of you Studio Ghibli fans posted.

Maeda Atsuko declares she won’t be participating in AKB48’s upcoming General Election
On March 28, Maeda Atsuko revealed through her official Twitter that she will not be participating in ‘The 5th AKB48 General Election‘. As reported earlier, there was a change of rules in this year’s election with the establishment of the “candidacy system”. Under this, former members who were a part of the AKB48 family for more than 4 years are allowed candidacy.
On the same day, Maeda attended a press conference for ‘MTV VMAJ 2013‘ as the MC. She stayed silent when reporters asked questions regarding her participation in the election. Then at about 3:30 pm, she tweeted, “I won’t be appearing in the General Election,” and explained, “During that time in June, I will be overseas for filming.” She also gave a shout out to the members who will be present at the election saying, “But I will be supporting everybody from the bottom of my heart.”
So far, former AKB48 members Masuda Yuka, Yonezawa Rumi, and Nakaya Sayaka revealed that they won’t be participating in the election. While former SDN48 members Noro Kayo and Urano Kazumi announced their intentions to participate. The reception desk period for the candidacy will start on March 31.

SPYAIR to provide the theme song for Matsuda Shota’s new drama
On March 27, it was revealed that 4-member rock band SPYAIR’s newest song “Niji” will be used as the theme song for the TBS drama “Sennyu Tantei Tokage”, which will begin airing every Thursday at 9PM starting on April 18.
Actor Matsuda Shota stars as a detective in the drama. The drama offers a different flavor of mystery and suspense as it follows a former elite police detective who possesses an overwhelming memory and his assistant as they solve difficult and unresolved cases. The drama is also reflective of human nature as the characters in the drama mature as they struggle to balance “oneself” with “one’s past.”
For a little backstory on the band, all of the SPYAIR members are from Aichi Prefecture and they were formed in 2005. In 2009, DJ ENZEL☆ who was a support member, joined the group. Last year, they were handpicked to provide the theme song for the Japanese release of the film “The Amazing Spiderman,” and in December, they performed for the first time ever at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. After their performance at the Nippon Budokan, ENZEL☆ left the group. This is the first song they have made as a four-man group and it was written specifically for the drama. The song is a brilliant rock ballad that encourages one to persevere and walk forth even when one is troubled.
The group plans on revealing the song on March 31 at Zepp Namba in Osaka.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s new song chosen as the theme song for Fuji TV’s new afternoon program
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s newest song “Point of view” will be used as the theme song of the Fuji TV afternoon news program “Ageru TV,” which will begin airing on April 1.
“Ageru TV” will air every day for about an hour and a half starting at 1:58 PM. The main cast consists of freelance announcer Nishio Yukari, Fuji TV announcers Nakamura Mitsuhiro and Sasaki Kyoko, and Rakugo story-teller Shunputei Shokichi. The program’s theme is “innovation,” and reports on innovation in topics including daily life, economics, health, medical care, business, and entertainment.
Kyary’s song “Point of view” was written specifically for the program. Plans for the CD release of the song have not been revealed.

Domoto Tsuyoshi to release his 1st cover album
It was announced that Domoto Tsuyoshi (of KinKi Kids) will release his first cover album titled “Kaba” on May 8th.
The cover album consists of the masterpieces from various artists whom he especially has intense feelings for, self-cover of his solo debut song “Machi“, a new song “amagoi“, as well as the re-arranged version of “Yasashisa wo Mune ni Daite” which was written and composed by Domoto himself about 16 years ago.
There will be a limited edition that comes with a DVD, and a regular edition.

EXILE to sing theme song for Yonekura Ryoko’s upcoming drama
EXILE’s new song, “Flower Song” (release date undecided), has been picked up as the theme song for Yonekura Ryoko’s upcoming drama, ‘35-sai no Koukousei‘, which starts on April 13th.
In the drama, Yonekura will play a 35-year-old woman who enters a high school where she has to face the problems of present-day high school students.
The lyrics were written by ATSUSHI, who worked on the song after hearing circumstances and problems that occur in school. ”For plants, winter is the period of ’shadow.’ But once overcoming winter and welcoming spring, there will definitely be a period of ’sunlight’ in order for sakura to be in full bloom. Even if you are having a real rough time now, there will certainly be a period when things will look a little brighter. That’s the message I put into the song. I hope it becomes a support song for everyone who stands at a new start line.”
Meanwhile, Yonekura commented, “It has a gentle melody that allows you to feel spring, and with EXILE-san’s warm singing voice, it reminds you of the bittersweet memories of youth you experienced during high school.”
Aside Yonekura, Mizobata Junpei, Katase Nana, Masu Takeshi, Yokoyama Megumi, Enoki Takaaki, and Watari Tetsuya will star in the drama.

Actress Sakaguchi Ryoko passes away due to colon cancer and pneumonia
It’s been reported that actress Sakaguchi Ryoko passed away on March 27th at 3:40 am at a hospital in Tokyo. She was 57 years old. As stated in her will, the wake and funeral was held with Sakaguchi’s near relatives.
On the 29th, Sakaguchi’s husband, professional golfer Ozaki Tateo (59), and daughter, talento Sakaguchi Anri (22), announced through their agencies, “Since before, she was undergoing treatment (colon cancer and pneumonia).” They also commented, “From now on, the entire family will cooperate and do our best while receiving kindness from everyone.”

Kanjani8 achieves highest BD sales by a male artist in addition to overall lead position in DVD & BD charts

Kanjani8’s live Blu-ray Disc (BD) “KANJANI∞ LIVE TOUR!! 8EST ～みんなの想いはどうなんだい？僕らの想いは無限大!!～” (Released on March 13th) has sold 56,079 copies on its first week, topping March 25th weekly sales chart. They have managed to top this overall ranking since this list was created (July 2008), becoming the top male music artists to ever achieve this.
They have also topped DVD rankings simultaneously after selling 182,000 copies of the same work on its first week. Their previous DVD/BD release “KANJANI∞ 五大ドームTOUR EIGHT×EIGHTER おもんなかったらドームすいません” (March 2012) also achieved overall leads in both rankings.
In the same ranking there’s other 3 artists who have achieved this title twice and consecutively; Mr.Children, EXILE and Namie Amuro. Kanjani8 has become the 4th member of this list and they’ve gone straight to the top of it. In addition, this is the 7th consecutive DVD they’ve put in the top charts, they are on their way to reach both B’z and Arashi with 8 consecutive works, each.
This work presents live footage from the first concert of this tour, held in September of last year in Nagai Stadium, Osaka. A condense work after 8 years of growth of all members. There’s tears, there’s laugh, and some touching moments.

SKE48 commissioned as public safety ambassadors for Aichi prefecture
On March 28, 10 members of Sakae, Nagoya-based idol group SKE48 were commissioned as Aichi prefecture crime prevention and traffic safety PR ambassadors by police Superintendent Okita Yoshiki. They will be active in their roles as ambassadors for one year, which begins in April and ends in March of 2014.
Aside from appearing at crime prevention events, they will appear in videos that cover topics including cyber crime prevention and theft prevention. Their first event, the Aichi Prefectural Office’s Spring Nationwide Traffic Safety Event, will be on April 5.
The 10 members that appeared at the commissioning wore brown jackets and checked skirts; they appeared nervous. Member Mukaida Manatsu (16) stated, “In order to live with a peace of mind in a safe Aichi, we would like to combine all of our strengths [to attain this goal.]”

Indie singer Chie to make her major debut this summer
On March 28, it was announced that female indie singer Chie, who works full-time as an employee of a major corporation, will make her major debut this summer.
Her indie debut song “Soredemo…” grabbed 3rd place on the iTunes chart when it went on sale last March. Although she is a petite at just 1.54 meters, she has sharp dance skills, which she has honed since her elementary school days, and she has been performing mainly at live music clubs. She has also appeared on fashion magazines as an amateur model.
She auditioned more than ten times while she was studying at university, but gave up her dream after failed all the auditions. However, after she got a job at the end of 2010, she auditioned for YANAGIMAN (52), who has produced songs for the artists like Kato Miliyah and Ketsumeishi, and was able to embark on a different path.
She continues to perform live twice a week while working a full-time job. She commented powerfully on her upcoming major debut with, “Finally I stand at the starting line. I want to tell everyone that no matter what your situation, your dreams can still come true.”
She will continue working at the same company even after her major debut, but she will not reveal her company or her personal information. She said, “My dream is to become a top artist that 10/10 people will recognize.”

Hoshino Gen to hold his first Nippon Budokan live
It’s been revealed that singer/actor Hoshino Gen will be holding his first Nippon Budokan live on July 19th.
Hoshino formed the instrumental band SAKEROCK back in 2000, and while being active as their guitarist, he made his solo major debut in June of 2010. His upcoming live will be called ‘STRANGER IN BUDOKAN‘, and it will coincide the release of his 3rd album, “Stranger” (May 1st release).
The album’s limited edition will enclose the serial number for pre-reservation tickets. General ticket sales will start on June 15th.

Golden Bomber reveals the details on their new compilation album
Details on Golden Bomber’s new album “The Past Masters vol.1“, which is set for release on April 24th, have been revealed.
“The Past Masters vol.1″ is a compilation album to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the band’s CD debut, and it will consist of 16 tracks in total.
There will be limited editions A, B, C, and a regular edition. Limited editions A and B will come with a DVD, while limited edition C and regular edition will have a CD only. The jacket cover for the limited edition C has been made as a collaboration with SoftBank as it features the “father dog” from SoftBank’s “Shirato-ke” CM series.

Maeda Atsuko to launch her official website and fan club
On March 29th, a pre-site opened to announce the upcoming launch of Maeda Atsuko’s official website and fan club.
The pre-site (http://www.atsuko-maeda.com), which can be accessed via PC, cell phone, and smart phone, allows fans to register for an E-mail magazine. Registrants will receive information regarding Maeda via mail.
After graduating from AKB48 last August, Maeda started her Twitter in late-October and shut down her blog in November. Until now, she did not have her own official website or fan club.

the GazettE to hold a world tour in September
Previously, visual-kei rock band the GazettE announced their plans for this year, which included the releases of new live DVD, single, and also an album, and now they’ve announced another exciting news for their fans overseas. It is said that they will be holding a world tour this September! This will mark their first tour overseas in about 6 years.
The band will make stops in 7 countries (9 locations), and it will kick off in Mexico on September 6 until the final stop in Finland on September 29th. More details on each performance will be announced on a later date.

BoA and Kawamura Ryuichi to sing theme songs for daytime drama, ‘Hakui no Namida’
BoA and Kawamura Ryuichi will be singing the theme songs for Fuji TV’s upcoming daytime drama, ‘Hakui no Namida‘, which starts on April 1st.
‘Hakui no Namida’ is set in a general hospital in a quiet town near the seaside. The protagonist will be played by Mizuno Miki, and her husband will be played by Nagai Masaru.
The opening theme will be BoA’s new song, “Tail of Hope“, which she’ll be releasing as her new single early-summer.
Meanwhile, the ending theme will be Kawamura’s new song, “Nanairo“. This song was written especially for the drama, and it’s scheduled for release on May 29th in both CD and CD+DVD versions.
