The Padang is the great, green field that fronts Singapore's old City Hall. It is used both as a parade field and as a cricket field. (The Singapore Cricket Club is headquartered there.) This postcard image looks west, across the Padang, toward the Singapore River. At lower left is the Nichol Bridge; at center left is Elizabeth Walk. Presently, the whole water area on the left has now been reclaimed from the sea and turned into a large hotel-shopping district, including Singapore's modern convention center, Suntec City. In the background are the collection of buildings located at the mouth of the Singapore River

Here is another long-gone and forgotten scene: the East Coast, looking out toward Singapore Harbor, as it naturally appeared up to the 1970's. The road, East Coast Road, is now a multi-lane highway, and, because of large-scale land reclamation projects along this end of Singapore, the area around is now teeming with multi-storey public and private housing.

kiranya betul lah lagu di tanjung katong- airnya biru...

Another view of the beaches at Katong, along Singapore's East Coast, ca. 1950. The road on the left is called Beach Road. It still exists by that name ... but is almost a full kilometer away from the beach now due to land reclamation projects.

beach road??

Hai brownie,
Aku cuma teringat masa first time my old man took me to aquarium.... the number and varieties of fish kept me in awe...

I assume the Underwater World at Sentosa now is very much better... but nothing beats the first time experience all those years ago...
