Legendary Lomu concedes All Blacks dream is over

WELLINGTON (AFP) - Rugby great Jonah Lomu, who returned to game last year after a kidney transplant in the hope of playing in next year's World Cup, had conceded that his dream of regaining his All Blacks jersey is over. His failure to win a contract to play in next year's Super 14 meant his campaign to force his way into New Zealand's World Cup squad had ended, Lomu told the Herald on Sunday newspaper.
"I'd be lying if I said I'm not disappointed about not getting a Super 14 contract," Lomu said.

"But I have had a go. I would have been more disappointed if I didn't have a go."

The giant Lomu, who made 73 All Blacks appearances, has played in two previous World Cups and was renowned the world over for his blockbusting style in which he would swat aside defending players or simply run over them.

He said he had no regrets over the course his career had taken before or after he contracted the rare illness, nephritis, which led to renal failure and his eventual kidney transplant in 2004.

"If I had my time over again, I wouldn't do anything differently," he said.

"I wouldn't even change the kidney illness. It has made me a better person.

"I don't feel I've let anyone down. I've given it my all.

"It's been a failure in the sense I didn't make the All Blacks but I certainly didn't fail myself.

"I dared to dream. Who can criticise me for that?"

Lomu has started only one match for his North Harbour side in New Zealand's domestic competition this season, and his appearances off the bench have been brief and largely ineffective.

The winger, who at his peak was one of the world's best paid rugby layers, earning an estimated 400,000 New Zealand dollars (260,000 US) per year, was recently demoted to North Harbour's second 15.

All Blacks squad for European tour announced

The squad includes one first-time selection -- Canterbury halfback Andy Ellis -- as well as a notable recall for Waikato's Keith Robinson who earned six caps between 2002 and 2004 before a long-term back injury.

"It's great to see Keith back in an All Blacks squad," said All Blacks coach Graham Henry. "He is an accomplished lock with a great attitude on and off the field."

The list of All Blacks returning to the squad after injury also includes Otago lock James Ryan and his provincial teammate first five-eighth Nick Evans, as well as Wellington midfielders Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith.

All Blacks coach Graham Henry and his assistant coaches Wayne Smith and Steve Hansen and fellow selector, Sir Brian Lochore, have announced the following All Blacks squad for the 2006 European Tour:

John Afoa, Auckland
Dan Carter, Canterbury
Jerry Collins, Wellington
Clarke Dermody, Southland
Jason Eaton, Taranaki
Andy Ellis, Canterbury
Nick Evans, Otago
Rico Gear, Tasman
Carl Hayman, Otago
Andrew Hore, Taranaki
Chris Jack, Tasman
Byron Kelleher, Waikato
Luke McAlister, North Harbour
Richie McCaw, Canterbury (Captain)
Leon MacDonald, Canterbury
Chris Masoe, Wellington
Aaron Mauger, Canterbury
Keven Mealamu, Auckland
Malili Muliaina, Waikato
Ma? Nonu, Wellington
Anton Oliver, Otago
Keith Robinson, Waikato
Josevata Rokocoko, Auckland
James Ryan, Otago
Sitiveni Sivivatu, Waikato
Conrad Smith, Wellington
Rodney So?ialo, Wellington
Reuben Thorne, Canterbury
Neemia Tialata, Wellington
Piri Weepu, Wellington
Ali Williams, Auckland
Tony Woodcock, North Harbour

Another four recent All Blacks were unavailable for selection due to injury: Troy Flavell, Doug Howlett, Angus Macdonald and Greg Somerville.

aku baru jek transfer sini ikut laki aku. Game memang brilliant! Penat aku sorak. Tapi tak banyak try macam game Wallabies vs Springbok 2 weeks before that ke ape. Kat sini best, every weekend bleh gi tengok rugby, tapi rugby union la. Aku lebih suka Rugby league, dorang nyer season blom start lagi.

injured manjang

England name squad for All Blacks test
26 October 2006

LONDON: England coach Andy Robinson included seven uncapped players in his 30-man squad for the game against New Zealand at Twickenham on Nov. 6.

Backs Anthony Allen, Toby Flood, Olly Morgan, Shaun Perry and Paul Sackey were named for the first time, as were forwards Stuart Turner and Tom Rees.

Flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson is absent through injury and there was no place for his World Cup-winning team mate Lawrence Dallaglio, who returned to action for London Wasps earlier this month after an ankle operation.

Newcastle's Wilkinson has had a catalogue of injury problems and has not played for England since kicking the drop goal that won the World Cup in November 2003.

"I'm pleased with the 30-man squad...it includes a good mix of experience and also gives an opportunity for some of the newcomers to further their claims for a starting place at some point during the four test matches in November," Robinson told the Rugby Football Union (RFU) Web site.

"I will amend and add to the squad for the Argentina game to ensure that no player starts more than three of the four games.

"I'll also consider players who haven't made the 30 this time around. Some players have recently returned from injury and there is a good possibility that they and others may feature in other matches this November," Robinson added.

England face Argentina on Nov. 11 before two home tests against South Africa later in the month.

Robinson is due to announce the captaincy and starting side on Tuesday.

Squad:

Backs: Iain Balshaw, Olly Morgan, Josh Lewsey, Mark Cueto, Paul Sackey, Ben Cohen, Mathew Tait, Anthony Allen, Jamie Noon, Toby Flood, Charlie Hodgson, Andy Goode, Pete Richards, Shaun Perry.

Forwards: Andrew Sheridan, Perry Freshwater, Julian White, Stuart Turner, George Chuter, Lee Mears, Ben Kay, Danny Grewcock, Tom Palmer, Chris Jones, Pat Sanderson, Lewis Moody, Tom Rees, Magnus Lund, Martin Corry, James Forrester
