why dont you try "Life is BeautifuL"? it's a good movie with good storyline...i'll bet ...its really worth to watch it!!!!

life is baeutiful tu mmg superb la... aku dah tgk byk kali.. lagi satu ader filem lama, tajuk dia it's a wonderful life.. filem tu pun best gak... genre dia mcm life is beautiful la....

anyway, saper dah tgk citizen kane? (filem yg digembar-gemburkan sebagai filem terbaik of all time)

pada gua, 'citizen kane' tu bagus dari segi teknikal jer. i didn't care for NOBODY in the story.

dan dia di vote as best film by americans. kalau tak salah gua, worldwide critics punya best film either 'bicycle thieves' atau 'tokyo story'.

bagi aku nagisa oshima mmg direktor yg bagus...teknikal skill dia maybe tak sebagus mane tapi dari segi presentation, dia mmg bagus...aku hanya tonton 3 jer filem dia, ai no corrida, gohatto dgn death by hanging...death by hanging merupakan faveret aku..mengaplikasikan dokumentari-style ala2 dogme mengisahkan tentang kekejaman dan ketidakadilan kerajaan jepun menghukum etnik korea...

ai no corrida is no longer banned.

oshima was not the precursor of miike takashi. the seducer (released 10 tahun sebelum ai no corrida) probably was. in fact, miike takashi himself cites only monty python as an influence and nobody else.

pada aku, pasolini's salo punya excesses lebih necessary dari those found in ai no corrida, sebab salo was a protest against corruption, whereas ai no corrida's extreme acts were purely selfish acts.

i never said takashi miike is directly influenced by oshima..i just think that maybe what oshima did with ai no corrida had eventually open a new door for alternative cinema in japan film industry (apart from pink film industry that was popular in japan during the 70s) and maybe that led to these risen of japan's extreme cinema cult directors with the like of takashi miike and the rest...

was the hardcore sex scene in ai no corrida necessary? imo yes...

and was it an act of selfish from nagisa oshima?..definitely yes..

in fact the whole film itself was a product of nagisa oshima's selfish act...ai no corrida still can be a great movie without the hardcore sex scenes but heck...oshima was too proud with himself so he decided to go extreme...which was the IN thing to do in the filmmaking world during that time (70s) where in europe there were pasolini's salo, caligola, kubrick's clockwork orange,cannibal holocoust and thriller-a cruel picture to name a few..so why not jump into the bandwagon...

and ai no corrida work for me...as for pasolini's salo...actually it just the same with ai no corrida..it's almost reflective with one another..both were an adaptation from an earlier incident/work...both from left-wing directors, both were considered as highly controversy work during the time of production, both were a symbolic political stance of the directors and both used the radical sexual aproach as the expression of director's protest towards the authority...it just that salo doesn't work for me...

aku tak penah tengok Salo. tapi kalau Salo pun ada melibatkan kanak-kanak dalam mana-mana babak2 'ekstrim'-nya tu, kemungkinan besar aku akan pandang filem tu sama je macam 'ai no corrida'.

maberik, you're right.

kedua-dua filem tu kalau aku tak tengok pun i don't think i missed anything.  bukannya sebab aku snob ke apa, it's just that aku tak minat filem atau lukisan atau novel that are more intellectual arguments than expressions of the artist's personal feelings.

kalau aku nak intellectual arguments, lebih baik aku join debating society atau pun baca buku-buku plato atau descartes.  filem bukan untuk itu pada aku, melainkan kalau filem tu political propaganda.
