The 20.1km DASH will reduce travel time from Puncak Perdana in Shah Alam to Penchala in Kuala Lumpur by 60 minutes.SHAH ALAM: Motorists will enjoy toll exemption on the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) from tomorrow until Nov 30.
Caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this when officiating the launch of the expressway.
The 20.1km highway, which costs RM4.2 billion, is expected to reduce travel time from Puncak Perdana in Shah Alam to Penchala, Kuala Lumpur, from 90 minutes to 30 minutes.
Ismail said the expressway, which began construction in August 2016 and was completed last month, will be able to reduce traffic congestion in several locations by up to 40% during peak hours.
“DASH will become an alternative route for motorists on the west side of Shah Alam to travel to Kuala Lumpur, which will reduce congestion and commuting time more effectively,” he said.
The highway will serve as a link between the western and eastern parts of the Klang Valley and provide access to people living in new townships such as Denai Alam and Kwasa Damansara.
It will also provide an alternative route to Persiaran Surian in Kota Damansara, Subang airport, Damansara Perdana, Damansara, Penchala and the route towards Kuala Lumpur.
He also announced the construction of an additional lane and a new tunnel at Genting Sempah to accommodate high traffic volumes as well as to deal with congestion between the Gombak and Bentong toll plazas on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK).
Reduced toll charges on six highways
Separately, Ismail announced that reduced toll fares will be implemented at 12.01am on Oct 20 on four highways under Prolintas.
The highways are the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), the Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA) and the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (Kajang SILK).
He also said the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas) and the Besraya Expressway under IJM Corporation Bhd will see a reduction of toll rates from January.
In a statement, the works ministry said the new toll charges are being finalised.
It also said a planned extension to the concession period will allow the government to save RM8.8 billion in compensation to highway concessionaires.
