Persekutuan Bina Badan Malaysia

Before the formation of the national federation in 1969 bodybuilding competitions were maily organized by the state associations. The first official "Mr. Malaya" contest was held in Kuala Lumpur in 1955 and was won by a sixteen year old bodybuilder from Singapore, Mr. Robert Teo. In the early sixties Malaysia participated in the NABBA Mr. Universe contests held in London and the first Malaysian bodybuilder to achieve world class status was Clancy Ang from Malacca, who won the "Mr. Universe" title for short men class in 1962. Osman Ali, from Kedah also competed but placed sixth in the medium men class. In 1963 Sunny Phua from Johor competed in this international contest and won third place while Pak Wai Phung from Penang was not placed in the finals.
From the mid sixties onwards, Malaysia started sending bodybuilders to compete in the ABBF and IFBB sanctioned competitions. A number of our bodybuilders have won Asian championship titles, but most notablebodybuilder is Abdul Malek Noor from Johor, who won the Heavy weight title six times from 1985 to 1988 and from 1990 to 1991. Malek Noor has since then retired from bodybuilding. Presently, Sazali Abd. Samad has won the Bantam weight Asian title four times, in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000 and we hope that he will be able to break Malek's record.
Malaysia has hosted a number of international competitions, such as the SEA championships, the Asian championships, the Commonwealth championship and the World championships in 1990(Kuala Lumpur) and 2000 (Malacca).
Sazali Abd. Samad from the Police DiRaja Malaysia is the second Malaysian bodybuilder to win the world title in the Bantam weight category in 2000 and he was also awarded the "Best Bodybuilder of the 20th Century in Asia" and the "National Sportsman of the Year 2000".
