Road to international fame
Young talents are invited to audition for a chance to represent the country in the Olympics for the performing arts, writes Dennis Chua
OUR singers are known to excel in the annual World Championship Of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood, taking home medals every time.
They include Malaysian Idol 1 runner-up and radio personality Dina Nadzir, Akademi Fantasia 2 vocal powerhouse and comedian Bob Yusof, budding singer-songwriter-composer Iqwal Hafiz Ismail, jazz star Noryn Aziz, Twisties Superstarz 2011 runner-up Cheryl Koh and One In A Million 2’s Iz Sulaini.
The organiser for Worldstars Road To Hollywood 2012, (Malaysia’s search for representatives to WCOPA 2012), hopes award-winning Hafiz Suip of Awan Nano and Noktah Cinta fame, will be one of them.
Matme Sdn Bhd managing director Romli Bidin and talent search adviser Datuk Seri Zaienal Abidin Omar are greatly impressed with the Akademi Fantasia 7 champion’s soulful and passionate performances which earned him Best Vocals in Anugerah Juara Lagu 2011 and 2012.
Romli says Hafiz is just the person to lead the local team which will comprise both artistes and non-artistes with talents in singing, dancing, musical instruments, modelling and acting.
“We plan to have 15 in this year’s team to represent all five categories. Hafiz is one of our best new singers and we see great potential for him to go international,” says Romli.
Zaienal says: “Hafiz can sing in Malay and English and he puts a lot of passion and soul into every song. Furthermore, he believes in his own brand, which is his curly hairdo.”
If Hafiz is up for the challenge, he will audition with fellow hopefuls from March 10 to April 8.
Auditions will be held at Johor Baru (March 10-11), Kuching (March 17-18), Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur (March 24-25 and April 7-8), and Kota Kinabalu (March 31-April 1).
The semi-finals will be held in Seremban on April 14-15 while the finals (where the team is unveiled) will be in Kuala Lumpur on April 28.
Romli says: “There will be intensive training for the team in June, followed by a showcase on June 30. The team will head for Hollywood on July 4.”
Malaysia’s Best Dance Crew 2012 will be held simultaneously with the Worldstars auditions. The winning team will participate in the World Hip Hop Dance Competition in Las Vegas, from July 30 to Aug 5.
Since the first time Malaysia participated in 2005, the national team had won 100 gold medals, 59 silver medals and 19 bronze medals in various categories.
Worldstars Road To Hollywood 2012 was launched by National Arts And Culture Department director of arts development Mohamad Radzi Omar in Selangor.
Mohd Radzi says: “Going to Hollywood is an excellent training ground for artistes to break out of their comfort zones. It can also lead to future collaborations with international stars, producers and composers.”
Koh advised this year’s hopefuls to believe in themselves and treat WCOPA as an adventure.
“While competition is stiff, it’s an honour to represent the country and I wish this year’s team all the best,” says Koh, whose debut album with eight songs will be launched in April.
She is currently promoting her self-composed and self-penned song I Feel For You as well as Liang’s Be Like Me.
Iqwal, who took part in WCOPA five years ago, says his participation led to the recording of his third album, Iqwal: Made In Hollywood, in Los Angeles last year.
“It is a pop and R&B album with five songs, two of which I wrote and composed. My collaborators were composers George Landress and Ani Zonneveld,” says Iqwal who has just returned from the Asean Concert in Vientiane, Laos and will be in Bangkok, Thailand for the King’s Concert in April.
Wilson Tan, who won the Best Asian Model (men’s category) in Seoul, South Korea, last year, advised hopefuls to have a positive mindset and be prepared mentally.
“The exposure is great,” he says, adding that he plans to act in local movies and television programmes soon.

aku sentap dah ni!!!! grrrrrr!! apa yg aku berlagak??? aku cakap kat fans idayu yg dok melalak tapi x pastikan idayu dapat masuk....!!! sepatutnya buat la FB palsu byk2 utk pastikan idayu masuk la!!! tapi dok melalak sana sini.....walhal idayu tu rileks je walaupun x dapat masuk!!! sepatutnya terima je la kenyataan dah fan idayu x buat apa yg sepatutnya dorg buat la!! itu maksud aku la!! apa kene mengena dgn Hafiz la!!! |

..bkn ke ko sendiri yg pernah berkata bahawa..."sesungguhnya ummah islam masakini lebih menyayangi artis idola daripada Rasulullah s.a.w."....samalah jgk dlm hal ini...mendoakan sesuatu yg buruk berlaku ke atas org lain adalah satu perbuatan yg berdosa....ko masih ingat lagi tak apa yg ko pernah tulis sblm ini?..
