Strange on fire after last-minute entry
ARLANDASTAD (Sweden): Scott Strange was told he was in the Scandinavian Masters only 45 minutes before his tee-off but the 30-year-old Australian's frantic dash to the tee paid off with the first-round lead.
Strange defied his unnerving start by posting a six-under 64 which earned him a one-shot lead over surprise Swedish contender, 21-year-old amateur Fredrik Qvicker, and Britain's Sam Walker.
Strange, unable to play a practice round before taking on Arlandastad because his clubs had been lost in transit, came in from first reserve when Briton David Drysdale, scheduled to be in the first group out, pulled out early in the morning.
Cashing in on his good fortune, Strange, who was first reserve only because entries went down to his 149th finish last year which cost him his tour card, took on Drysdale's caddie, birdied the first hole and hardly looked back.
揑 was sitting on the bus coming to the course when I got a phone call at 6.45am telling me I had 45 minutes to get here for my tee-time, |

Overton in line for first title
RALEIGH (North Carolina): Little-known American Jeff Overton birdied his final hole for a three-way tie for the lead in the Wyndham Championship second round in North Carolina on Friday.
The former Walker Cup amateur hit his second shot from 256 yards to 15 feet at the par-five ninth and two-putted for a five-under 67 at Forest Oak Country Club in Greensboro.
That left him on 12-under 132, level with fellow Americans John Huston (66) and Steve Marino (67) in the final event of the PGA Tour's regular season.
Swede Carl Pettersson birdied three of his last five holes for a 67 and a share of fourth at 11-under with Americans Tim Petrovic (65), Greg Kraft (67) and Craig Kanada (65), plus Dane Anders Hansen who shot a joint best-of-the-day 64.
Overnight leader Will MacKenzie, who opened with a nine-birdie 64, slipped back into a tie for 11th at nine-under after carding a 71.
Overton, a rookie on last year's PGA Tour, mixed four birdies with one bogey to reach the turn in three-under 32 after teeing off at the par-four 10th.
He then signed off with successive birdies at the eighth and ninth to put himself on track for his maiden title on the world's most lucrative circuit.
