Kaymer and Kingston lead

ARLANDASTAD (Sweden): German Martin Kaymer and South African James Kingston take a three-shot lead into today's Scandinavian Masters final round.

Kingston set the target of seven-under-par with a three-under 67 yesterday and Kaymer, leading the South African by a stroke overnight when sharing first place, matched the 203 aggregate with a 68.

The pair head Britons Paul Broadhurst, who equalled the Arlandastad course record 64 early in the afternoon, and Nick Dougherty (69) and Finn Mikko Ilonen (67).

Both leaders have been on the brink of winning on the European Tour without finishing off the job, Kaymer as recently as 10 weeks ago.

The promising 22-year-old German, in his rookie year, shared the lead the Wales Open in June after three rounds but faded to 14th place.

Eye on the Tiger

NORTON (Massachusetts): Steve Stricker (pic) will start this week's Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston at the head of the FedEx Cup points standings and with one eye firmly fixed on Tiger Woods.

American Stricker ended a six-year title drought on Sunday with a two-shot victory at the Barclays Classic, the first event in the PGA Tour's lucrative four-tournament season finale.

Stricker's first success since the 2001 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Australia lifted him above Woods in the FedEx Cup pecking order, the world number one having taken last week off to recharge his batteries.

揑'm in a great position now but there's still a long way to go and we all know who is coming back this week,

Boston event ready for the Tiger factor

NORTON (Massachusetts): Tiger Woods' presence at any golf tournament is a rubber-stamped guarantee to drive up the television ratings and this week's Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston will be no exception.

The world number one returns to action at the TPC Boston after missing last week's Barclays Classic, the first event in the PGA Tour's lucrative four-tournament season finale.

Television ratings plummeted at the Barclays with an exhausted Woods opting out after winning back-to-back titles at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship in sapping heat.

揕et's be honest about it, there's only one person that really matters in this playoff system and that's Tiger Woods,

Warren finds form to lead at Gleneagles

GLENEAGLES: Briton Marc Warren, the 2006 European Rookie of the Year, shrugged off indifferent form to take a one-shot advantage in the Johnnie Walker Championship first round on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Scot fired an eight-under 65 to lead Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium.

It was a welcome boost for Warren, who has missed the cut 14 times in 21 starts this season, including the last two weeks at the Dutch Open and the Scandinavian Masters where he was the holder.

揕ast year I won, played in the World Cup and finished fifth at the Champions Tournament (in Shanghai),

Colombian goes two shots clear as big names struggle

NORTON (Massachusetts): Colombian Camilo Villegas upstaged the game's biggest names by signing off with successive birdies to forge two strokes clear in the Deutsche Bank Championship first round on Friday.

The 25-year-old rolled in a 12-footer at the 17th and narrowly missed a long-range eagle putt at the last before tapping in for a sparkling eight-under 63.

Villegas, bidding for a maiden PGA Tour title in his second full season on the circuit, ended a blustery day at the TPC Boston two strokes clear of Canada's Mike Weir and American Ryan Moore.

Swede Henrik Stenson opened with a 66 to finish level with compatriot Fredrik Jacobson, Americans Heath Slocum and Brett Wetterich, and Australian Steve Elkington.

World number one and defending champion Tiger Woods, back in action after a two-week break, returned a 72 after running up a double-bogey six at the fourth where he needed three shots to escape a greenside bunker.

Le Vesconte stretches lead to four strokes

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Australia's Adam Le Vesconte enjoyed a blistering finish to stretch his overnight lead to four shots at the US$300,000 Brunei Open yesterday.

Le Vesconte, bidding for his second Asian Tour title, birdied two of his last three holes en route to a three-under 68 at the Empire Hotel and Country Club. He leads Taiwan's Lu Wen-teh and the in-form Tony Lascuna of the Philippines, who both fired matching 66s.

Lin Wen-tang, also from Taiwan, is fourth, six off the lead after battling to a 71 while compatriot and titleholder Wang Ter-chang also carded a 71 to lie nine back.

On a sun-kissed day, Le Vesconte, who led by three at the halfway stage after shooting a pair of 65s, parred his opening 10 holes before nailing his first birdie on the 11th.

With the chasing pack closing in, he sunk a crucial 25-foot birdie putt at the par-three 16th before rolling in another eight-footer on the last for a comfortable lead.

揑t wasn't quite solid as in the first two days as I didn't make many putts. I hit a few wayward shots but got away with some up and downs for pars a couple of times,

Briton Wakefield defies Saturday jinx

GLENEAGLES (Scotland): Britain's Simon Wakefield chipped in at the last hole to grab a share of the Johnnie Walker Championship third-round lead alongside Swede Fredrik Andersson-Hed yesterday.

A closing birdie in strong afternoon winds gave Wakefield a level-par 73 for a nine-under tally of 210, the same mark as Andersson-Hed who compiled a blemish-free 66 in less arduous morning conditions.

The pair were a stroke in front of 2006 European rookie of the year Marc Warren of Britain (73).

Wakefield said on Friday, when he shared the second-round lead with Frenchman Thomas Levet, that he could never perform well on Saturdays.

But in winds gusting up to 25mph, the 33-year-old Englishman battled to end his jinx.

揟he wind was unbelievable at times,

Woods reka padang golf
Susunan NOR FAIZAH MOHAMED

揝aya tak akan reka padang golf sebanyak Jack,

Warren wins in play-off

GLENEAGLES (Scotland): Scotland's Marc Warren beat England's Simon Wakefield in a play-off to win the Johnnie Walker Championship here yesterday.

One shot off the lead overnight, Warren sank an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th green to close with a four-under 69 and join Wakefield at 12 under.

The Englishman, playing in the final group, then had a ten-foot birdie putt of his own which would have secured the
