Already Eurosport has anointed Wozniacki the Golden Girl of tennis. Is it any wonder that those of us who are of a different hue find these things intolerable. Why does there need to be the need to describe her as the Golden Girl of tennis. Why not just the new No. 1 ranked women's player in tennis. Why does there have to be a correlation between her looks and her current ranking?
Too bad that King and Navratilova among others, despite all of their accomplishments, could never be "golden girls"...unless the term is alluding to the hit TV series.
I find the term golden girl demeaning to describe certain players when they get to the top of the rankings. I cannot ever recall Serena or Venus being described as golden girls when they held the NO. 1 ranking. I guess you have to be blonde to be described like that.
JK: Even when Serena was #1 and blond, I don't remember her being called a "golden girl". LOL.
