No grand double for Trish in Indonesia
PETALING JAYA: It was a heartbreaking end for national back-up bowler Trish Khoo in the Masters Open event of the Indonesian Open at the Jaya Ancol Bowl yesterday.
The 20-year-old Trish failed in her bid to nail her first senior international title after losing 169-156, 172-186 to Singaporean Bernice Lim in the sudden-death playoff of the step-ladder finals. All the Malaysian needed was a spare in the final frame after leaving pin two and eight standing but she managed to hit only pin two.
Earlier, Trish knocked down 215 pins to beat former international Lai Kin Ngoh (199) and Hong Kong's Chan Suk Han (189) for a place in the step-ladder finals.
It would have been a grand double for Trish if she had won the title. On Friday, she was crowned the Under-23 Youth Masters champion at the same venue.
But Trish, who was named as Sabah's Most Promising Sportsgirl earlier this week, can walk tall despite the defeat. The runner-up finish was the best result achieved by a back-up bowler this year.
In the men's Masters Open, Zulmazran Zulkifli was a disappointment. He could only manage a 158-total |

Malaysia also decide to boycott the ABF Tour
By RAJES PAUL
PETALING JAYA: After mulling over it for some time, Malaysia have joined two other Asian countries to snub this year's Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour.
None of the Malaysian elite and back bowlers competed in the Indonesian leg of the Tour yesterday even though several made the cut from the results of the Indonesian Open.
Only the top 16 men and top 16 women from the Masters competitions of the Open, which ended on Saturday, are eligible to compete in the Tour event.
Malaysia's back-up bowler Trish Khoo emerged as the women's Masters runner-up while Zulmazran Zulkifli came in third in the men's event.
Malaysia are the third country to give the cold shoulder to the Tour following the decisions by Singapore and Taiwan. It is learnt that the Philippines will also follow suit. Malaysia had earlier this year withdrew as the hosts of the opening leg of the Tour. With the latest decision, it will be the first time that Malaysia will not see action in the Tour since its inception in 1998.
The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) secretary, Sidney Tung, said that they decided to sever ties with the Tour because of its poor organisation.
揟he ABF Tour is not offering prize money and some of the top Asian bowlers from Singapore and Taiwan are not competing, |
