More volatility seen in M'sian and global markets in H2
By IZWAN IDRIS
[email protected]
PETALING JAYA: The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KL Composite Index (FBM KLCI) held its ground during the first half of the year, recovering quickly from a sell-off in May with a surge in June that kept the benchmark index afloat on a year-to-date basis.
Going forward, analysts said, the same issues that plagued global equities market for the past six months will continue to haunt investors’ sentiment for the rest of the year.
RHB Research Institute’s head Lim Chee Sing expected the second half year to be another “bumpy ride” for equity investors.
“The market will probably remain volatile, at least in the near term, largely because of Europe’s debt problems, policy risk in China and concerns about global growth,’’ Lim said when contacted yesterday.
He projected stock prices to retreat from current levels, but saw strong support for the benchmark at around 1,200 points.
“We are positive about the market in the longer term, as we feel that the economic fears may have been overplayed,’’ Lim said.
The company, he said, was keeping its year-end target for the FBM KLCI at 1,400 points.
Earlier this week, CIMB Research reiterated its year-end target for the FBM KLCI at 1,450 points based on its mid-cycle price-to-earnings ratio of about 15 times.
That is a reasonable price to pay for good stocks, but that will also put the Malaysian market as among the most expensive in a region crowded with companies with high growth potentials.
But some fund managers argued that the valuation is skewed towards the big capitalised (cap) stocks, and local stocks are actually cheaper if you go beyond the top 30 stocks that made up the FBM KLCI.
“The Malaysian market is actually a two-tier market,’’ said Jason Chong, the CEO of Manulife Asset Management (M) Sdn Bhd.
A glance through showed that while the FBM KLCI was valued at about 15 times its prospective earnings, the FBM Mid 70 index was traded at a much palatable level of about 12 times.
“There is still value in the mid-sized and smaller cap companies,’’ Chong said.
Bargains aplenty, but foreign money appeared to have given the Malaysian equity market a miss in the past six months in favour of other regional markets.
“Foreigners have been net seller in Malaysia every single month this year,’’ CIMB Research said, adding that June would probably see another round of outflow.
May net outflow figures of US$84mil was the highest this year, the company said on June 28, quoting statistics from Emerging Market Portfolio Fund Research.
In the market, the FBM KLCI hit 1,346.92 points on May 13 – its highest level since March 2008.
It was also on that day the country’s biggest listed company, Sime Darby, dropped a bombshell with a revelation that it had lost RM964mil on four projects due to cost overruns.
Since then, the FBM KLCI had recovered some lost ground, while shares in Sime Darby continued to languish.
Despite a 5-point slump yesterday to 1,314 points, the FBM KLCI was up 3% year-to-date.
If returns on stocks were measured in US dollar, the FBM KLCI gain stood at a hefty 9.4% boosted by the ringgit’s 6% appreciation against the greenback over the same period.
That made Malaysian stocks one of the better investment choices in the region, behind top performer Indonesia, followed by Thailand and the Philippines.
Elsewhere, it was a sea of red, with stocks in Shanghai being the worst performer in Asia, down 27% year-to-date.
In Australia, the key index dropped 11.7% over the same period, followed by Japan’s Nikkei 225 index with an 11% slump and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index falling 8% |

and in business, tidak ada istilah relevent or not relevant..
tapi unit trust ni, sama jugak dengan business2 lain..
ada peniaga bermusim yag excited pada satu ketika saja, macam peniaga kuih raya, peniaga buah durian, dll
bila dah satu ketika, mereka stop...itu benda biasa..
and sama jugak peniaga2 lain, online ke, conventianal ke...
mereka mahu mencuba..

BEING A MOTHER
After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, 'I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.'
The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my Mother, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.
That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. 'What's wrong, are you well?' she asked. My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.
'I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you,' I responded 'just the two of us.' She thought about it for a moment, and then said, 'I would like that very much.'
That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited at the door with her coat on.. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's. 'I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,' she said, as she got into the car. 'They can't wait to hear about our meeting.'
We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady.
After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half-way through the entrees, I lifted my eyes and saw Mother sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips.
'It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small,' she said. 'Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor,' I responded. During the dinner , we had an agreeable conversation nothing extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, 'I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.' I agreed.
'How was your dinner date?' asked my wife when I got home. 'Very nice, much more so than I could have imagined,' I answered.
A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her. Sometime later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place Mother and I had dined. An attached note said: 'I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but, nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me.'
'I love you, son'
At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: 'I love YOU' and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve.
Nothing in life is more important than your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till some 'other' time.
Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby... somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, 'normal' is history.
Somebody said you can't love the second child as much as you love the first... somebody doesn't have two or more children.
Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labour and delivery.... ...somebody never watched her 'baby' get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten. .. or on a plane headed for military 'boot camp.'
Somebody said a Mother can stop worrying after her child gets married...somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in- law to a mother's heartstrings.
Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home...somebody never had grandchildren.
Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her... somebody isn't a mother.
Pass this along to all the GREAT 'mothers' in your life and to everyone who ever had a mother.
This isn't just about being a mother; it's about appreciating the people in your lives while you have them... no matter who that person is!
Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes...your destiny.
'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle'.
' HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!! ' |

'Pendapatan orang kaya dan miskin terus melebar'
Ogos 2, 10 3:03pm
