Dr M: The government will consider Hindraf's demands
PETALING JAYA: The government will consider the 25 demands made by the Hindu Rights Action Front (HINDRAF 2.0) including on land issues and admission to Universiti Institut Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir said the claims will be reviewed and considered.
“We will consider their demands,” he said at a press conference after chairing the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) Supreme Council Meeting held at Menara Yayasan Selangor, here, today.
It was reported that Hindraf had asked for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to provide lands for low income Indian families similar to the FELDA plan.
They also urged the new government to consider opening UiTM’s entry to all races.
Hindraf chief P Uthayakumar demanded that UiTM which was created specifically for Bumiputeras and Malays to be opened to all races, especially for Indians from the B75 group.
“We want 20,000 lots of land such as Felda. Each lot should be equipped with palm oil and wild cattle farm, the land ownership scheme must come with home-based facilities and basic amenities.
“We also demand the government of PH to provide the property of 20,000 lots of 0.8 hectares of land for cattle or goat livestock as well as houses and facilities.
“It includes a 15 percent chance for the B75s for entry into public universities, polytechnics, UiTM and Tadika Permata every year,” he told the media after submitting a memorandum containing 25 claims to the government through the Government Advisory Council at Menara Ilham.--Reporting by Reporting by Manirajan Ramasamy, Fairul Asmaini Mohd Pilus, Nasarudin Parzi and Farhana Syed Nokman
