jangan lupa disebalik apresiasi untuk filem camni aku rasa ramai yang terlupa dengan filem ang lee tahun 1997 yang membawa tema yang serupa cumer latarbelakangnye berbeza (tahun 70 an). filem lakonan kevin kline, joan allen, sigourney weaver, christina ricci and elijah wood ni menang best screenplay kat cannes dulu tak silap aku tapi sayangnya telah dioverlooked masa academy awards. aku honestly rasa filem ni lebh superior dari american beauty. so original. quitee menyeramkan keberantakan rumahtangga yang ditonjolkan!

ice storm...selalu dengar gak citer nie....tapi x berpeluang tengok lagi...kalo tak silap hero Spidey pun ada blakon dlm nie kan....selain menang best screenplay filem nie juga nonimee utk Palme D'Or kat Cannes pd masa yg sama......since aku suka giler ngan American Beauty...memang nak tengok sanagt2 laa citer nie....karya Ang Lee pulak tu....

tapi nampak macam ada sedikit perbezaan.....filem Ice Storm berlaku dlm latarkeluarga era 70an....manakala American Beauty mengambil latar keluarga amerika akhir era 90an....tentunya ada beza.....remaja awal 70an dengan remaja 90an berbeza.....masyarakat akhir 90an lebih dekat dengan masyarakat era millennium......

hmm annete bening lost her oscar chances that year when american beauty grabbed all the major awards (best film, best director, best original screenplay and best actor) kecuali best actress. kekalahannya di tangan hillary swank (boys dont cry) merupakan satu upset jugaklah. memandangkan dia lebih berpengaruh di hollywood berbanding hillary swank waktu itu. now tahun ini she has a chance to redeem herself when her new movie "being julia" walaupon dikritik tapi save one compliment for her performance.;)

tp dr apa yg aku tgk semalam .. American Beauty is not that damn beauty .. tak tau la apa yg silap .. maybe sbb banyak cut .. banyak censored .. atau sbb subtitle slalu tak kuar .. but one thing for sure .. aku tak feel sgt citer dia ..

Pertama kali tengok memang aku suka gak citer ni, tapi bila tengok sekali lagi semalam, rasa bosan dengan 'falsafah' yang dia nak rodok kat otak aku. Kalau dibandingkan FIGHT CLUB lebih mendasar ceritanya, lebih kuat bongkaran realiti Amerika. American Beauty ni cuma mengulang kembali persepsi superfisial kita tentang Amerika.
