Lost stowaway twins beat sharks, crocs and snakes to be found alive by bushmen; Sisters survive 40-hour swim.
The family of stowaway twins Sarah and Jane Ingham were ecstatic when the girls were found alive yesterday.
And their survival story amazed searchers who had given them up for dead three weeks after they vanished from a ship.
They had managed to swim through shark-infested seas, dodge crocodiles and survive in the Australian outback.
Last night their parents wept for joy after the 18-year-olds were discovered by Aborigines on a remote coast in Northern Australia.
The sisters had stowed away on a ship but they were rumbled and locked in a cabin by the captain.
Rather than face the music back home, the girls and a crewman pal jumped over the side - 20 miles from the coast of Australia.
Their leap from the ship Bunga was described as like jumping off a three- storey block of flats.
A massive air and sea search failed to find the trio.
Police suspected the girls had been murdered and dumped at sea.
But they had actually survived a 40-hour swim through treacherous seas, past a river estuary swarming with giant crocodiles.
They lived rough in Australia's most hostile environment for 18 days, surviving on crabs and oysters and drinking rain-water.
The girls were finally caught in a town with a bag of groceries they had taken to help them stay on the run.
They were treated for sunburn and exposure and last night they were being questioned by police in Cairns.
But a police officer admitted: "They aren't keen to tell us too much."
Their mum, Jeanette, 52, was anxiously waiting to speak to them. Jeanette, who emigrated to New Zealand from Leeds, hugged her husband, Bernard, and said: " We're absolutely ecstatic that they're alive.
" My heart didn't so much leap as swing round the light fittings when I heard they were alive.
" It's just mind-boggling what they've been through and they've been incredibly lucky. But we never gave up hope."
Police Sergeant John Moran said:
" The Aborigines came to see us and told us about these three people they had found on this remote beach.
" I guessed right away who they were, although I was amazed because I had given them up for dead.
" It was only with the help of two Aboriginal trackers that we found them. But you could tell they were far from happy about us bringing them in. "

warung besi bukan yang kat tepi sungai muar tu ker? tempat orang gi Medan tu...yang naik feri tu..... dulu memang besi betul warung besi tu... tapi skang dah cantik sikit agaknyer.... |

Kiranya bodoh ler si Jakpo tu g kawen dgn pros mat saleh!!Derang nak carik duit & enjoy jer kat ats kapal tu!!!Memang ler derang tu drama queen boleh nangis2 bagai nak rak melafazkn cinta palsunya!!!Sia2 jer mamat tu hilang keje demi mempertahankn cinta kekdahnya!!! |
