Jason Momoa Batman vs Superman Jason Momoa May Join Batman vs. Superman But Who Would He Play?
Batman vs. Superman is starting to get crowded. First, Warner Bros. made the announcement that Gal Gadot was officially joining the film as Wonder Woman. Then we heard rumors that Denzel Washington and Idris Elba were being considered to star as the villain Lex Luthor. Needless to say, DC fans have had a lot to chew on over the last week.
Now they’ve got something else to consider. According to a new report, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian) is in discussions to join Batman vs. Superman in an unnamed role.
The story, which was first reported by THR, offers a few suggestions for who Momoa might play. We’ll dig into those shortly, but it’s worth mentioning that if Momoa does join the film, it wouldn’t be the first time the actor has flirted with playing a comic book character.
Marvel reportedly considered offering Momoa the part of Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, but the deal fell through over salary negotiations. The company later selected Dave Bautista to star in the film. Maybe Momoa will be a bit more flexible this time around.
But let’s get back to Momoa’s possible role. One possibility, mentioned in the THR article is Doomsday, is one of DC’s greatest villains and the person that “killed” Superman. The rumor mill has been churning about Doomsday for a little while now, so it’s no surprise to hear Momoa’s name tied to the character.
In the comic books, Doomsday was a genetically engineered monster that was put through an accelerated natural evolution to become a perfect, unbeatable killing machine. If Lex Luthor is a part of the movie, as many fans are expecting, we could see a version of Doomsday that is genetically engineered by Luthor to act as a deterrent to Superman.
Another possibility (though less likely) could see Luthor using leftover genetic material from one of the Kryptonian invaders in Man of Steel to create a clone of Superman, leading to a version of Bizarro Superman (which is essentially what happens with one version of the character in the comics).
Of course, Jason Momoa won’t necessarily play a villain. In the THR article, a source speculates that Momoa could play Martian Manhunter. Given that the entire DC movie universe is building toward a Justice League movie, this is a possibility. (Heck, given how many characters are appearing, they might as well come right out and call this movie Justice League.) That said, based on Momoa’s previous roles, it seems likely that he’ll play someone a bit more…violent.
In any case, Momoa offers the physicality and action movie experience to fit into Zack Snyder’s sequel no matter what role he plays. The question is, will the addition of too many characters too quickly backfire and leave audiences wondering what might have been?

Joaquin Phoenix linked to villain role in Batman vs. Superman
Could he be playing Lex Luthor?
Dec 19th 2013 By George Wales
Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have a target in mind for the villain of Batman vs. Superman, with Variety reporting that Joaquin Phoenix is top of their hit list.
The report claims that the main villain of the piece could be Superman’s old nemesis, Lex Luthor, and that Snyder believes Phoenix is just the man for the job.
No offer has been extended as yet, so this one is very much at the preliminary stages, but it gives some indication of the way Snyder is thinking…
Meanwhile, Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio has been brought in to give the script a lick of paint, which should be music to leading man Ben Affleck’s ears.
Directed by Snyder and co-starring Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, Batman vs. Superman will open in the US on 17 July 2015.
Report suggests Oscar-winning actor will join the ever-growing ensemble cast of Batman vs. Superman
Prepare for the latest 'Batman vs. Superman' rumour: it has been claimed that Denzel Washington is in line to play Green Lantern in the Warner Bros/DC 2015 superhero team-up movie.
The Oscar-winning superstar was already rumoured to be a potential Lex Luthor, before Joaquin Phoenix emerged as the most hotly tipped contender for that role (another rumour which, it should be stressed, remains unconfirmed).
Now, Nuke the Fridge cites an unnamed source who tells them "the "Training Day" actor is being considered for the role of Green Lantern John Stewart instead."
For the benefit of those less familiar with how Green Lantern works - unlike Superman or Batman, the title of Green Lantern is passed on to numerous different people at different times. Whilst Ryan Reynolds played the Hal Jordan Green Lantern in the 2011 movie, Washington would be up for the more recent incarnation of John Stewart. (No, not that guy off 'The Daily Show.')
Common almost portrayed John Stewart in the aborted 2008 'Justice League' movie, whilst Idris Elba has subsequently expressed possible interest in the role.
Does it seem likely that such a highly acclaimed, long established Hollywood superstar as Denzel Washington would be cast in what will likely be a minor role in an already crowded big budget superhero movie? Perhaps not - but then, who among us would have believed this time six months ago that Ben Affleck would be cast as Batman?
On the one hand it isn't too hard to see Washington taking the role. He's always balanced out his work in upmarket, serious drama with an unabashed love for low-brow popcorn movies; take his recent turn alongside Mark Wahlberg in '2 Guns.'
On the other hand, given that the actor just turned 59 (today, in fact - happy birthday, Mr. Washington!), he would have quite a few years on his 'Batman vs. Superman' co-stars Ben Affleck (41), Henry Cavill (30) and Gal Gadot (28). Still, it's fair to say Washington could easily pass for a fortysomething.
Ultimately, it all depends on the vision director Zack Snyder and writer David Goyer have for John Stewart. It has been widely declared that Affleck fits their take on Batman as a well-established veteran superhero within this story world; perhaps the same will be true of this Green Lantern.
Either way, if this does prove to be true, and Green Lantern will indeed appear alongside Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman - not to mention The Flash, who remains uncast thus far - we do have to wonder whether this still-untitled movie will prove to be a full-blown 'Justice League,' as opposed to the 'Batman vs. Superman' we've been expecting.
Superman/Batman Movie Pushed Back to 2016
By Matt McDaniel 10 hours ago
Up, up, and delay!
Warner Bros. Pictures announced on Friday afternoon that they were pushing back the release of the sequel to last summer's "Man of Steel" a full 10 months from the original date of July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016. The project has been under intense scrutiny since last summer when it was announced that Henry Cavill's Superman would be going face-to-face (or jaw-to-jaw) against Batman, played by Ben Affleck. It was also announced in December that Gal Gadot — the Israeli co-star of the most recent "Fast & Furious" — was also joining the cast as the iconic super heroine, Wonder Woman.
In a statement, the studio said that the decision to change the release date was made to allow returning director Zack Snyder and his crew, "time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story." But moving the film to the next calendar year also gets it out of an already over-stuffed 2015 summer movie season. New installments of "The Avengers," "Jurassic Park," "Terminator," "Fantastic Four," and "Fast & Furious" are all scheduled to hit screens next year.
It is interesting that the DC Comics film would claim a spot in the first weekend of May in 2016, since that first slot of the summer movie season has been claimed by a Marvel Comics film for the past several years. Ever since the first "Iron Man" opened on May 2, 2008, there as been a Marvel-related film in the first weekend of May. Marvel had announced plans to open a film on May 6, 2016 back in June of last year, but they have not yet confirmed which of their characters would be featured in it (the mystical "Dr. Strange" has long been rumored as a possibility). It remains to be seen if Marvel will steer clear of their DC rivals and change their release plans as well, or if we'll see a real comic-book showdown in cinemas that weekend.
Warner Bros. also announced that replacing the "Man of Steel" sequel in its original release date would be their new version of Peter Pan. Directed by Joe Wright ("Atonement," "The Soloist"), this retelling of J.M. Barrie's classic is said to be an origin story of how Peter and Captain Hook came to be arch enemies. Hugh Jackman is reportedly set to play the villainous pirate Blackbeard in the movie.
There were unsubstantiated rumors earlier today that Ben Affleck had suffered a leg injury, but so far there have been no credible reports to confirm that. Affleck is scheduled to present at the Screen Actors Guild on Saturday, so we'll all see if he's limping or not.
The "Man of Steel" sequel will hit theaters 2 years, 3 months, and 19 days from Friday (not that we're counting).
