John Lloyd Cruz wishes Bea Alonzo well on her new movie
by Arnel Ramos | August 08, 2009 1:44 AM

But when I saw some footage na nakuhanan na, I became more confident.

Bea stars in And I Love You So with Derek Ramsay and Sam Milby. Bea has shared stellar billing with Milby before in the hit flick Close To You and the soaps Maging Sino Ka Man Books I and II where they also had John Llody in the cast. “I’ve seen her grow up,” says John Lloyd of Bea. “She was fifteen when I first worked with her. Maraming-marami na kaming pinagsamahan and alam ko na this is something na kailangan naming pagdaanan. Actually, we wished for this.” John Lloyd is obviously referring to the chance to break out of the love team mold.

The public wildly embraced his team up with Sarah Geronimo in two gigantic blockbusters, ang A Very Special Love at You Changed My Life.

Sadly, Bea’s two screen outings without John Lloyd (Dreamboy with Piolo Pascual and Pacquiao with Jericho Rosales) were not as warmly received as John Lloyd’s pairings with Sarah. There is no long argument over Bea’s skills as an actress. She can be very persuasive as in One More Chance and charming like in Now That I Have You. Both films featured the John Loyd-Bea team up and did extremely well at the tills.

Thus, And I Love You So is a crucial test for Bea’s box-office pull. And needless to say, John Lloyd is supportive of his beloved screen sweetheart’s efforts to prove her worth.

I wish that Bea's new flick with Sam & Derek will be a smash hit. Bea is nervous doing a movie without JLC. All of their films together surpassed the 100M pesos mark, unfortunately DREAMBOY w/ Piolo & MANNY PACQUIAO movie w/ ECHO failed to do so. The press says JLC have proven to be a blockbuster even w/o Bea, in turn out both AVSL & YCML became the most watched movies of all time, making JLC crowned as BOX OFFICE KING for 2 consecutive times.  And running for his 3rd via YCML (P200M +).

Bea Alonzo draws out "organic emotion" in doing heave drama
Nerisa Almo
August 07, 2009

Since her first major TV series Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay in 2002, people already saw how much tears young actress Bea Alonzo had shed her dramatic scenes. The last time Bea remembered crying a lot was in 2006, when she played Jackie Madrigal in the primetime soap Maging Sino Ka Man. Then, it was followed by its second installment titled Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik in 2007.

With these, many were wondering how the 21-year-old was able to produce those buckets of tears just for playing a fictional role. Bea answered, "It's an 'organic emotion!'"

She related at a press conference held recently that she always gets the same question when talking about being an actress. She said, "Lagi ko ngang sinasabi—kasi laging tinatanong sa akin at siguro sa aming lahat ng nagso-soap or nagda-drama—there is no such thing [as technique]. And I don't believe in that. Maybe there is pero I don't use it."

Then, she described how this 'organic emotion' worked for her.

Bea added that she uses the situation in the story to motivate herself to become emotional for the scene she would be doing.

Pero as you grow in this business, it helps na parang, 'Ay, ayaw ko na gamitin ang totoong buhay.

AFFECTS HER HEALTH. Personally, Bea admitted that crying too much on television series somehow has an effect on her health.

She narrated, "I asked my cardio about that kasi noong Maging Sino Ka Man Book 1, sobrang daming emotional scenes doon. 'Tapos nagha-hyperventilate na ako most of the scenes kasi hindi ka nakakabitaw.

Sabi niya, mayroon akong irregular heart beat. Pero sabi niya naman it's not too dangerous or scary kasi nga siguro mga 30 percent or 40 percent of women may gano'n.

The lead actress in Star Cinema's 16th anniversary movie offering And I Love You So added that each time she started doing heavy drama scenes, it was always hard for her to back to reality.

"Hindi ako get out [sa character] kaagad," she said.

ON ACTING AWARDS. Since she started her career in showbiz in 2002, Bea still never had the luck to win an acting award. Although, she was nominated twice as Best Actress, in two different award giving bodies, for the movie One More Chance in 2008.

Bea said winning an award is not her main goal whenever she portrays a character either in a movie or a TV series.

"It would be an honor kung makaka-receive ako, pero wala akong cravings for that. But importante sa akin 'yong after how many years, maalala pa rin nila 'yong characters ko.

Pressure on Bea Alonzo intensifies as the showing of her movie without John Lloyd Cruz nears
Rose Garcia
Thursday, August 6, 2009
PEP.ph

Ganun. At saka, si Direk [Laurenti Dyogi], nagsasalita ng magaganda about the project, about our performances, kinakabahan ako nang sobra!" pahayag ni Bea sa presscon ng And I Love You So, kagabi, August 5, sa 9501 restaurant ng ABS-CBN.

PRESSURE TIME. Naging box-office hits ang back-to-back movie nila ni Sarah Geronimo na A Very Special Love at You Changed My Life.

And I Love You So?

Paano ang attack at saka yung way ng pag-uusap namin kapag nasa set kami, very professional. Alam na namin kung paano ia-approach. Halimbawa, may ire-request ako na, 'Puwede bang halikan mo ako rito, or puwede bang bubulungan kita rito...' Ganun yun, e.

"But, nag-enjoy ako working with Derek and Sam, kasi parang naging raw ka ulit. Hindi na de numero. Since hindi mo alam kung paano sila iha-handle, naging challenge sa 'yo at mas na-push ka beyond their expectation."

ONLY GOOD WORDS FOR BEA.

Ayon dito, she thinks Bea would be "the next important actress and star."

BEA'S SUPERB ACTING DESERVES MORE THAN ONE TROPHY

BEA Alonzo might win a best actress trophy, not just once but even twice or thrice, for her convincing portrayal of a 24-year-old teacher whose husband succumbs to an early death, in "And I Love You So." Her acting as a widow is so superb, you wonder how she’s able to handle the demanding character of Lara, whose grief seems inconsolable.

After all, Bea is only 21 and has yet to experience that kind of pain, not to say, joy, too. Don’t actors cull their own experiences to be able to give a good performance?

In the case of Bea, she may have suffered a broken heart when her romance with Mico Palanca ended but it looked like she was able to get over it.

"I have to credit Direk Lauren (Dyogi) for whatever kudos I’m getting for my performance in the movie. He really went out of his way to make me feel the character of Lara, every time I faced the camera.

"I guess that it helped, too, that before I started shooting for my scenes after the supposed death of my husband, Direk Lauren asked me to talk to a number of widows, some of them even much younger than Lara. Not all of them were newly widowed.

"Bale ba, some of them even had kids.

"I also have to thank, of course, Derek (Ramsay) and Sam (Milby), my leading men, who were equally good in the movie.

"And, of course, Tita Coney (Reyes), who served as a mentor, too, in some of my scenes in ‘And I Love You So.’ She is just amazing both as an actress and as a person as well."

When told that John Lloyd Cruz, her perennial movie and TV partner, took time out to watch the movie, Bea blurted: "I thank him for the effort. At sana nga nagustuhan niya."

While Bea said she looks forward to teaming up with John Lloyd again, her greatest dream, at the moment, is to be able to work with Aga Muhlach, whom she claims to admire very much as an actor.

"I have watched all his movies," she revealed. "And I love them all."

ENTERED THE MOVIE HOUSE A FAN, EXITED IT A FAN FIVE TIMES OVER
excerpt from: http://gillovny.multiply.com/reviews/item/1

When the opening shot of And I Love You So finally came on, the four of us all looked at each other the same time and said the same thing, "Bea looks really pretty, ha." Hmmmm ... Were we ALL actually expressing a sudden liking for her? Impossible! But yes, we were! Then she started talking about her character's love story with Oliver (Derek Ramsay) and how their fairytale romance suddenly came to a halt on her 24th birthday. By the time Bea lay on the bed clutching her husband's ashes, crying her eyes out, we were sold -- okay, we love her na! And it's only been what? Ten minutes into the film?

Bea was so undeniably good in this movie! Her portrayal of Lara Cruz, grieving young widow, was not only believable but full of empathy. Watching her evoked memories of my Ate Maris when she lost her husband a few years ago. My sister would always put up a brave front whenever we were around but we all knew, despite her smiles, that she would succumb to tears and depression once we left her alone.

Bea's eyes were so full of unspoken pain, especially in those moments with Coney Reyes who played Oliver's mother Kate. While Kate's grief was on full display, Lara's was always restrained and private, which made me want to hug her just so she could feel some sense of relief. Ate Maris would often tell me before that it took so much out of her to keep her feelings at bay, not to drown in her sorrows so that she could function for all of us who needed her to be okay. Bea attacked the role with dignity and stoicism that made me cry for her even more. Gone were the hysterics from the Bea Alonzo of old.

The Bea Alonzo I saw in this movie gave a controlled, nuanced performance that was light years away from her Basha in One More Chance. Even her voice seems to have changed. It was less nasal and less high-pitched, and more effective that way. She hardly said a word for a good portion of the movie and the silence was moving in itself. Bea was so good at conveying the unbearable torment that comes with losing a loved one and the difficulties of having to pick up the pieces of a shattered life that we were all rooting for her to fall in love with Sam's character. Lara deserved to be happy again, not only because she was experiencing such crippling sadness but because she could love so fully and faithfully beyond death, and that I suppose, is what Sam's character loved the most about her.

Now, if only the rest of the world can love Bea Alonzo!

I am guilty of having not liked her before -- but now, I have the utmost respect for her -- simply because she seemed so oddly out-of-place among the gaggle thinnified ASAP starlets with small arms, even smaller hips and big boobs. The girl can't help it if God didn't bless her with the bone structure of a supermodel, and yet she is clumped with those girls, much to the irritation of the general public. Every Sunday, she's in some pretentious production number where she sticks out like a sore thumb because of her height. Being a tall girl myself, I know that when I'm put beside such petite women, the tiniest hand movement looks like the graceless jab of an ogre. I give her points for trying to run with it but such effort makes her persona seem so contrived and insincere.

Bea Alonzo, I realized, shines brightest by herself, as herself, away from pack -- which is why this movie is so good for her. Her handlers should package her separate from the other girls. They should stop putting her in those stupid costume-y song-and-dance routines where she's forced to act sexy when that's not really what she's about.

In the movie, she had a scene where she comes out of the surf in a bikini. It wasn't a sex diva moment but an emotional unburdening of sadness. We could all appreciate that she definitely lost weight, and in some scenes she almost looks gaunt, but her big frame really makes her look unforgivably fat by conventional (and very male) standards. Her body is that of a REAL-WORLD woman: perfectly flawed but beautiful nevertheless. Thank goodness director Lauren Dyogi and the cinematographer highlighted her beauty and not her body.

We also noticed that for most of the movie, Bea's beautiful face was given due notice with the simplest make-up. It was easier to follow her emotionally because more masks came off. Kudos also to whoever styled Bea in this movie. Not only did she look beautiful (even when she's distressed, mind you), she looked effortlessly stylish. Her clothes emphasized her assets and hid her problem areas quite well. If only she could maintain this simple, elegant look in ASAP ...

And like I said, she's basically a good girl. That is cause for some dislike among the cynical general public, myself included, who question her sincerity and wonder if anyone can really be THAT nice. But Bea Alonzo's innate decency is both her greatest strength and her worst flaw. This "niceness" can often register as "blandness" when she's not given the right role. But in this movie, Bea's and Lara's sense of overall goodness and equilibrium are challenged not only by life-altering loss, but by a new love that's both dangerous and sweet. If not for Bea's good-girl persona, I might have perceived Lara as just a horny widow in dire need of some physical loving. But because it is Bea Alonzo playing the part, Lara came out human, accessible and lovable.

So congratulations Bea! Your fanbase has just expanded to include four formerly jaded girls. I hope to the high heavens that you shine even brighter in your next project so pick the right one! Listen to whoever told you to make "And I Love You So" your first solo movie.
