"MY LEFT HAND LOOKS NICE? PLEASE THEN TAKE A LOOK AT THE RIGHT ONE."
Taking off his glasses and wearing a wig, BYJ is now into making his debut movie, Scandal. He has been in the TV business for 10 years now, proving his talents and rising confidence level. Now, in movie making, we come to see the other side of BYJ.

HWRL is probably the most acclaimed work of his before his retreat into travelling and studying. His role as an orphan fighting against life but giving so much for his sister touches many hearts. Life might have fatigued him, but his fighting spirit wouldn't. It was a huge success, followed by his comeback acts in "Hotelier" and "WLS", in which he embodies kindness and positiveness.
Beginning of this year when news came that BYJ was playing a "playboy" character, it caused quite a stir. I was surprised as to why BYJ would abandon his well-accepted image of a decent and honest guy.
IS THIS RECKLESSNESS OR BRAVEY?
"There is so much more to learn in terms of movie making."
I interviewed BYJ on the set. When he was walking towards me, all smiles on his face, so gentle, humble and a bit shy, I couldn't imagine he was the hottest star in Korea now.
We sat on a sofa and he was fidgeting a little, perhaps out of shyness. He spoke very politely and softly. At closer look, he has very nicely-shaped lips. It was reported that he lost 7 kg and it certainly showed.
His voice was deep and mellow, reminding me of his coffee CF. Most artists have their voice-over edited, but obviously BYJ's true voice is as beautiful as it is on screen.
THE JOURNEY IN THE SHOW BUSINESS
Q: Why was the decision to go on big screen?
A: It was not an impulsive decision. I had the desire for a long time. 1992 I worked in a movie production, very tough work but very interested in the way directors and actors worked. I wished then I could do a movie on day. For the 10 years that followed, I was invovled in TV production and could not find the right opportunity. Now I had this chance, of course, I wouldn't let go. So, the decision did not come suddenly. It took 10 years.
Q: It must be quite a challenge now that you have to change your screen image completely to play in a historical setting.
A: Yes. It is total commitment. The change of looks is not that a big deal. The real challenge is the kind of character I am playing. I felt that I could handle TV drama at ease now, but I want to go beyond this level. I don't want to become a"star" so to speak. I hope to be accepted as an actor. I am not getting younger, I sure cherish this opportunity for me to evolve and change.
(Now that BYJ is fully absorbed in the movie. Perhaps when he is interviewed in the future, he wouldn't care to answer questions like "what are the different ways to wear your pashminas as in WLS?" Instead, the questions would be like: how to ride a horse, how to paint and how to sword-fight?)
I AM DESPERATE NOW
In Scandal, BYJ has to memorize long dialogues in classic langauage, on top of hours of make-up and character study. He is really fatigued.
"I push myself very hard to be better all the time. But in some occasions, it really get too tough. So, my favorite sentence on set is: I'm going crazy." He felt that this role was more demanding than anything he played in the past 10 years and the pressure was relentless.
"When we were offered this script, I found it very interesting. And the chance to work with LMS and JDY was very appealing, so it didn't really take long for me to say yes. Now, I found out that it was not as easy as imagined to adapt to the way of movie making on the experience of acting on TV."
The playboy he protrays is a legendary but somewhat vicious figure and given BYJ is such a pure-hearted and kind person, I am worried if he could handle it well.
"CY has many sides. Sometimes LMS would give me very good advice, which help me a lot. So everyday I learn something and feel as if I am improving everyday."
BYJ'S HAND ON LMS'S LEG
The day I did the interview, they were shooting a scene in which BYJ had to put his hand on LMS's leg. There was a close-up shot of his left hand. I noticed that BYJ's hand was so perfect with beautiful shape and complexion. During the interview, I complimented him on this. Smilingly, BYJ showed me his right hand and said,"look, my right hand does not as good as the left one. But both hands are mine. I hope you would see that part of me, the whole of me as well."
Perhaps with Scandal, BYJ is going to show us the whole of him, that right hand of his in several months. Whether this is a reckless dive or an act of courage, we shall find out soon.

I think when BYJ has decided to take this film "Scandal", but simultaneously, the LG Shopping Company requested to him that the Company wanted him to take an ancient costume in his CF. I think he might be surprised because he doesn't want to disclose any information about the new movie including his costume and image before his announcement of taking Scandal as his debut movie. All he can do is that he can only take part of the costume but not in his full look of ancient costume. So he didn't wear topknot but still wore eyeglasses in this CF.)
He is acting a playboy of the Choson Dynasty in his first appearance in this historical film with starring Lee Mi-sook and Jeon Do-yeon. Jo-weon(BYJ) is extremely skillful in poems, calligraphy and painting.

He worked as a location staff who was a minor character of the film without receiving any payment because of trimming budget. So it is not very strange for him about movie.
Thus after 10 years, he will appear as a real actor in movie. He has prepared everything perfectly. He has stopped smoking. He always goes to sports center and now his weight has been reduced about 3kg. Besides, he has received the proprieties study before launching of the film.
"I should say thank to the film, Before I don't know much about the proprieties, but now I have some knowledge of this. Even though I don't have a lover now but I am well prepared to get married. I like traditional tea. I will make cups of tea for my bride in future"
In fact, when he becomes popular and popular he always receives calls from film(ex: 'fragrance of man', 'A zoo beside a gallery'..etc) industries asking him to take movie for their companies. The companies suggested different castings for him but he hasn't accepted any one of them. So a rumor was abroad from Choong-mu street (like Hollywood in USA) that BYJ is a man hard to please and he is insolent too. However he doesn't mind what they said and he is preparing for his film step by step. Whenever he was free, he went to preview locations of film and read many scenarios.
At last, his mind moved last year.
He made "syndrome" as BIG hit of WLS(winter love song) again and he expressed his next work will be a movie, without considering many suggestions for dramas again.
He has chosen "Scandal" and for his debut film.
He has his goal, an actor as well as a film director.
For it, he entered to FTM (Film, TV & Multimedia) art course of Seong kyun kwan University in 2000 and he is studying to be a staff of film. He is learning theories and professional photographing. He has taken a short film with students.
Frankly speaking, his ability of photographing is very excellent. When he has spare time in location, he takes photos very well. Staffs said that they were very surprised when they saw white and black photos that were taken by him.

In fact, BYJ appeared as less important character of a film 'BBil-gu' before his debut drama of 'the Greeting of Love' in 1994. He worked as a location staff who was a minor character of the film without receiving any payment because of trimming budget. So it is not very strange for him about movie.
Thus after 10 years, he will appear as a real actor in movie. He has prepared everything perfectly. He has stopped smoking. He always goes to sports center and now his weight has been reduced about 3kg. Besides, he has received the proprieties study before launching of the film.
"I should say thank to the film, Before I don't know much about the proprieties, but now I have some knowledge of this. Even though I don't have a lover now but I am well prepared to get married. I like traditional tea. I will make cups of tea for my bride in future"
In fact, when he becomes popular and popular he always receives calls from film(ex: 'fragrance of man', 'A zoo beside a gallery'..etc) industries asking him to take movie for their companies. The companies suggested different castings for him but he hasn't accepted any one of them. So a rumor was abroad from Choong-mu street (like Hollywood in USA) that BYJ is a man hard to please and he is insolent too. However he doesn't mind what they said and he is preparing for his film step by step. Whenever he was free, he went to preview locations of film and read many scenarios.
At last, his mind moved last year.
He made "syndrome" as BIG hit of WLS(winter love song) again and he expressed his next work will be a movie, without considering many suggestions for dramas again.
He has chosen "Scandal" and for his debut film.
He has his goal, an actor as well as a film director.
For it, he entered to FTM (Film, TV & Multimedia) art course of Seong kyun kwan University in 2000 and he is studying to be a staff of film. He is learning theories and professional photographing. He has taken a short film with students.
Frankly speaking, his ability of photographing is very excellent. When he has spare time in location, he takes photos very well. Staffs said that they were very surprised when they saw white and black photos that were taken by him.
Now he is the best top star of TV after the broadcast of "WLS", "Hotelier", "The barefooted youth" and "The first love". Whatever he appears in TV, all are hit. Otherwise, it is very anxious that whether his "syndrome" can be successful of not in screen also. |

The producer who made Taiwanese TV drama,<Men over flower (?)>, which enjoyed the highest popularity among Chinese-speaking region, had sent a love call to "Koreanesque star" BYJ (31). However, after serious deliberation, BYJ had ppolitely declined the offer for the drama part, which would ensure tremendous popularity there and huge guarantee.
It is because the shooting will overlap with his debut movie <Scandal...>, which is to be released in the Lunar August Full Moon time and the story is similar to the <Winter Love Song>.>
<Men over flower>, a product of CTS broadcasting in Taiwan was on air with popularity in Chinese-speaking regions of Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Taiwan. It was work of many talks because it had to be temporarily on hold in China for increased number of students who ditched the school in order to watch the drama.
It is a story depicting the love and dilemma of San Chai, of an ordinary family, who would enter the nobility school and meet group of sons of rich family, F4.
Mr. Tsai Yueh Shiun, who produced this drama recently offered BYJ's agency, saying "Please join the melodrama i am planning for a new drama. I will urgently send you the scenario. The story is the Taiwanese version of <Winter Love Song>"
The reason that the producer enlisted BYJ as the first one as the main actor for his coming drama, which already is receiving attention is due to the skyrocketing recognition of BYJ in Taiwan.
BYJ raised to the best "Koreanesque" star in Taiwan as his dramas, KBS 2 TV mini-sereies <WLS>, on cable GTV in May last year as well as MBC TV mini-series <Hotelier> on Taiwan TV in July 2001, became the serial hits.
There appeared the products illegally using scenes from <WLS> and BYJ keeps the top place among Korean entertainers in the popularity list in various entertainment magazines.
Considering the fact that Tsai Yueh Shiun, PD made the 4 members (Jerry, Vic, Vanness, Ken) of group F4 (Flower 4), the drama's main actors, the stars reigning over teh Chinese-speaking region, this love call toward BYJ is certainly a meaningful offering.
The PD is known to have said that "BYJ is different from the F4 and is an actor of weighty feeling with mature air. I was attractted to him after viewing <WLS>. I wanted to work with him because there are lots of interest about him in Taiwan."
BYJ said that " Although I want to be in the drama thinking of Taiwanese fans who dearly treasure me, I may have to give up because the situation is not possible," and "No matter what, the love calls from oversea are always pleasant events."

Hi girls...
Lama tak masuk forum ni...Alamak dah kat page 3 pulak
Sekarang ni ada VCD baru BYJ kat pasaran ...Love Greeting (debut drama dia) dan Barefooteed Youth cerita sebelum Have We Really Loved tapi sadly belum ada subtitle. Untuk Love Greeting its in dual sound tapi Barefooted Youth hanya dalam Mandarin saja.Itu yang tak best sebab tak boleh dengar his original voice.
You all should watch BYJ dalam Barefooted Youth. Kalau nak tengok BYJ doing all the physical stuff...kicking , bergaduh,boxing and all that you should watch this.
My personal favorite BYJ drama
1. Winter Sonata .....dah tengok cerita ni berkali2 dah tapi still tak boring...
2.Have We really Loved......suka part awal2, yang akhir pun best jugak cuma tak sanggup tengok banyak kali ...sedihhh
3. Hotelier ....ahhh Frank Shin
4. Barefooted Youth....hensemnye BYJ dalam uniform polis
