FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2003, BOTH ROGER FEDERER AND RAFAEL NADAL ARE OUT OF TOP 4

The times they are a-changin.
For the first time in 13 years, both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are out of the Top 4 in the ATP rankings.
Nadal, whose last Grand Slam title came at Roland Garros in 2014, moved down to fifth on Monday after falling to Grigor Dimitrov in the China Open quarterfinals. Federer, who had an injury-plagued season and hasn’t played since Wimbledon—he’s been rehabbing after undergoing knee surgery—has dropped to seventh.
Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori make up the Top 4. Milos Raonic slots in between Nadal and Federer, and Gael Monfils, Tomas Berdych and Dominic Thiem round out the Top 10.
The 35-year-old Federer went 21-7 in 2016 before shutting himself down. It was the first year since 2000 that he didn’t win any titles. He’s committed to next year’s Hopman Cup in Australia, and is expected to be fully healthy for 2017.
Nadal, 30, has gone 39-13 this season and won titles in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. But despite his solid record, the 14-time Grand Slam champion didn’t get past the Round of 16 at a major. He missed Wimbledon, lost in the first round of the Australian Open and pulled out of the French Open, where he’s won nine times, ahead of the third round.
Nadal, who trails Nishikori by just 10 ranking points, has a chance to return to the Top 4 this week, but he’ll have his work cut out for him. The Spaniard is playing the Shanghai Masters, where he reached the semifinals in 2015. Seeded fourth, Nadal had a bye in the opening round and will open his campaign with a second-round match against Viktor Troicki. |

If you look at the other members of the Top 10:
1. Djokovic: He is finished, he's having all sorts of problems with injuries, personal stuff, coach, etc. He's also not motivated anymore based on his own words and on court behavior.
2. Murray: He is perhaps the next no.1 player. He's had a great year, but seems to be overplaying and he paid for it at the USO. However, I have to say that right now he is by far the best slam contender for 2017. But yet, just when you think he's going to win a slam, he usually somehow disappoints with a bad performance.
3. Wawrinka: Yes he can shine in the slams once a year, but otherwise is very inconsistent. Will he win another slam, personally I think not.
5. Nishikori: He has never won anything of importance and keeps struggling with injuries.
6. Raonic; Same. He has never won anything of importance and keeps struggling with injuries.
7. Federer: He is done. Even if he comesback, if he only managed to win 1 slam in the last 6 years you think he will all of a sudden win a slam in 2017 well past his prime? What is HE playing for?
8. Monfils: A lot of talent, but still always falls short and again has never won anything of importance.
9. Berdych: Can peak for a match, but he just always disappoints.
10. Thiem: Again, can peak for a match, but hasn't proven that he will be a big champion.
Basically everyone except Murray should retire?

i cnp saja2 je... rasa menarik gak nak review level players lain.. wpun biased opinion.. cnp ni bukan nak argue dgn sapa2.. i malas nak tgk other top10 punya match.. tennis is rather boring for me right now. I may not go to WTF S'pore after all... going north instead of south. tsk! |

Maria Sharapova returns to tennis court for first time since doping ban with appearance at Las Vegas event
Maria Sharapova set foot on a tennis court for the first time since her positive drug test at the Australian Open on Monday, smiling throughout an appearance in the World Team Tennis Smash Hits charity event in Las Vegas.
The Russian star, who last week earned a reduction in her drug ban that will allow her to return to tennis in April, played in two light-hearted doubles matches in the event at Caesar's Palace to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Sharapova lost her doubles match with American youngster Taylor Johnson when they faced Martina Navratilova and Liezel Huber.
The 29-year-old indicated had felt a hint of nerves along with her 16-year-old doubles partner Johnson.
"It was a big occasion for her (Johnson) and also for me," Sharapova told ESPN.
"I haven't been on a court for a while, for both of us, it was to have some fun and a bit of laughs," she added.
Sharapova later paired with US legend John McEnroe in the evening's final game against Navratilova and Andy Roddick.
Sharapova had not played since testing positive for meldonium at the Australian Open in January.
Her initial 24-month ban was slashed to 15 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last Tuesday, a ruling which has divided opinion among her peers.Maria Sharapova was all smiles at the charity event on Monday. AFP
